Am I being unreasonable and truck washing?

What does your gaff provide to wash trucks with? I don’t mean specifics like this or that vehicle shampoo I mean like do you have a wash? A pressure washer? A hosepipe and brush?

We have the latter and it’s not been an issue for me until now because I don’t wash my truck outside because I tried it once it was such a ballache because of lack of eqipment.

But the gaffer and me had a bit of verbal yesterday because he walked past my truck and said it needed cleaning to which I said he needs to provide a decent means of doing so then offered to show him my cab which is spotless inside.

He just said there’s a brush and a hosepipe and I said with a fleet of 100 trucks surely he can do better than a weak hosepipe which when on full power will only reach halfway up the windscreen through sheer lack of pressure. Am I being unreasonable?

We get vouchers for the local truck wash. There aren’t any facilities at our yard to clean them so the day drivers are expected to take them at least once a week.

What do they use to wash them for annual test?

A pressure washer that is locked away and used during the day when the trucks and drivers are out.

We just use the local coach company’s wash.
If we want to just get the worst of the cabs we fill a big plastic thing which is on a pallet then use the fork lift to take it to the cab and use a proper truck washing brush to rinse the muck off. No soap but it does the job.

If youve run in on Saturday after maxing out your hours all week, the boss washes it, or it stays dirty. If its a sunny Friday morning, youve had a late start and looking to go home on full pay after two hours work, you wash it, even if its already clean.
Inbetween…all “ifs buts and maybes” really.
Reasonable boss? Talk.

we have two powerful jet washes . Built in with chemicals and also a drive through where we drive in press a button and go for a cuppa for 15 mins while it washes your truck for you.
All our vehicles are washed at least 3 times a week. cleanest and newest tipper fleet In the East.

Superb equipment, serious hot pressure washer, quality chemicals which run through the washer when required, good brushes, gantry if required.

I wash mine several times a week, takes minutes, reason i do is i take a pride in the job and the lorry is main tool of my trade.
It’s not a chore its a pleasure to do so, and by doing it often dirt doesn’t ingrain.

Hate it if i have to use someone else’s vehicle and you can’t see out the windows and the wheels are caked solid in unnecessary layers of brake dust.

One bonus of keeping your vehicle pristine is it ■■■■■■ off others who run round in their filthy unkempt motors, great fun upsetting them :smiling_imp:

We have a wash bay with pressure washer similar to car wash places. Just press button and you get pre-wash shampoo then normal wash and a rinse. Takes 10-15 min depends on how much you want to do.

And that’s just an extra - all our units are cleaned at weekends by a truck wash firm for the lazy ones we have who can’t be bothered[emoji6]

Hell some of our lot can’t be bothered fuelling up or are allergic to adblue!

We’ve got a couple of wash bays similar to what you’d find at your local fuel station except larger obviously to accommodate a truck.
I clean it on the last of my 4 days on as does my opposite driver on his last day. Very fortunate to share with someone who keeps it as clean as I do.

the company pays a truck wash firm, all we do is pull up,position the truck, get a voucher then sit in the cab, they do a really good job and these guys graft as well, especially as my trailer is the same size as a double decker

Having to wash the bosses truck …
maybe we should consult the resident truck washing expert

paging Mr Dozy…your input is reqd

If they are not bothered by there own truck why would they be bothered by yours

Local truck wash firm. All on account. Rock up, give name and registration then after a free coffee or 2 you are on your way. None of this hosepipe and brush malarkey for us!

An account with LPW truckwash, several locations in operation.

Least You have a hosepipe. I work for small company 6 wagons.we have nothing. I keep the inside clean as I can after all it’s my 2nd home. But I don’t wash the thing. If they can’t provide the equipment or even pay why should I. Couple the other drivers go to lymn pay it out there own pocket about £25 I think…forget that. If I’m up ■■■■■■■ I’ll call in at j38 truck stop give it a quick blast with the jetwash costs £2 .

Wash the truck - got a hosepipe but thats mostly for topping up the water, and a brush which makes the glass more manky than anything else. Also makes the place into an ice rink in winter. Not sure if we got any chemicals.

Beyond that non of them get washed apart from occasionally when a guy comes round with a pressure washer and they look clean for 10 minutes due to the salt.

Oh and theres no way we cleaning the trailers as they mostly double decker curtainsiders and if they mucky, we just ship them to another depot overnight (plus half would fall apart if hit by a jet wash).

Forgot to add, your boss is prob covering themselves as technically you should be trained on a pressure washer and theres COSHH if chemicals are involved. Some idiot will injure themselves otherwise and sue your boss or hse will.

We just use a hose and a brush.

But if anyone was at Fowler Welch Spalding this week and saw/used the blue MAN hospitality trailer I put it through the truck wash on site as it got dirty on the drive from Bristol. :sunglasses:

Drive through brush jobbie, plus four lads that do the pressure washing, soap and scrubbing on a Friday. Best bit is if you park it up dirty they even put it through wash for you.

We don’t even have water or electricity in our yard, so it just stays dirty.
I brush out the inside and wipe it over with some interior cleaner once a week though as I don’t like being in a messy cab all day.
