Hi this may sound a strange request but I’m trying to get a small repair business going for ally tippers and aggregate body’s. I’m only about 6 -8 miles from the A1
I’ve looked on the web and all I can find are the big boys which are charging the earth for deck overlays tailgate repairs and cycle guards repairs and adaptions.so all I’m asking is if you could give me some feed back on weather it’s a good idea before I go ahead.

Are there plenty of quarries or tarmac plants nearby?
I don’t know about your area but there aren’t many older alloy bodied tippers around these parts anymore, many subbies not tied into franchises prefer steel bodies.
Could you not shot blast the rust off of Boweld tipper bodies? You’d never run out of work.
You might get a better response if you were to post this on the ‘Owner & Fleet operators forum’.
This is the Professional drivers’ forum - we just point 'em, we don’t usually have a say in who does the servicing & repairs !
I would also suggest being a bit more precise with your location. The A1 is a 'kin long road - about 300 miles in England and another 100 or so in Scotland.
Just something like ‘Bedfordshire’ or ‘Lincolnshire’ or ‘North Yorkshire’ for example might be enough to get a reply from a tipper operator with local knowledge…
Good Luck…

To be fair most companies, even down to one man bands will do stuff in house if they have the option with the use of a local welder, or even use a local engineering or welding companies etc for repairs and modifications. i.e you’ll probably find very few use the big boys other than to acquire the genuine parts if needed. Unless its a major job etc.
Really does depend on your location and if there plenty operators in that area that are prepared to use people like yourself for repairs on and off site (having a “mobile arm” side to your business might help also with tailgate/welding breakdown work etc).
Good luck with it, if you build up a good solid reputation word will certainly get round the local operators i’d say. Also try speaking to a couple of the tipper companies to see what the script is regarding that type of stuff your looking to get into.
You would do very well in Lancashire
