Ive got full chassis infill on my Scania made from Alloy checker plate…but what a pain it is to keep it shining…you spend ages scrubbing and polishing getting it gleaming then after a couple of days it dulls again (oxidises i think they call it)…any tips guys before I get a big tin of black paint on it
Sell it for scrap ? the ■■■■■■ might give you a couple of quid for it
Try here

Then try laquering it
blissy, there isnt a great deal you can do mate to stop it dulling apart from reg polishing , you can get diamond bright plate which is from stock mirror finished but even then you still need to polish it, laquering it wont help as it goes a yellowie colour, and peels after a while, have it powder coated a nice candy colur and leave it alone lol, or sub the polishing work out to MR V, every sat morn
Apart from wiping it down every day with CIF Stainless Steel Cleaner (If it stainless) Or watered down brick acid if its alloy.
That will keep it shiny. Just spray it on, wipe and rinse. Job done.
I think what you are suffering from is Osmosis. It was a word suggested to me when I returned my motorbike for some warranty work. They used some Suzuki spray paint and resprayed part of the frame and fork legs.
I remember in a former life as a painter, having to flat off an aluminium body and using lots of etching primer before finishing with the top coat.
How about trying this,
plastidip.co.uk/index2.cfm?p … s&prodId=8
and then this,
plastidip.co.uk/index2.cfm?p … s&prodId=1
or speaking to a coach builder
PAINT IT SATIN BLACK!
MR VAIN:
PAINT IT SATIN BLACK!
Now then Rob I did think you would have said
RED
Didnt know you knew of any other colours

I think this will give you a good idea of cleaning aluminium plate from the manufacturer Aalco.
aalco.co.uk/technical/datash … eaning.pdf
It is important that you are not using strong acids as they will etch the surface and salt and oxidisation is our main problem in the UK
JenniChem sell an aluminium cleaner.
Dilute it ten to one,and use a broom to work it in. Hose off and repeat if necessary.
Works like a charm!
[Even when diluted,it will sting on skin,so be careful]

Hiya the really good ally cleaner is called AUTO PROUD Ultimate Alloy.I cleaned a piece on a ally sideboard on a lorry i had
is shell stanlow to show a chap how easy to use and how good this polish is. two years later this area is still very shiney patch.
The contact address is autoproud.co.uk
the company name is Fluid technology international ltd PO box 504 worcester…there was drivers polishing the trucks last year
at a show, i showed one driver how good this product was, he said show me on the ally wheels where the brake dust sticks
around the holes. six rubs later and the black had gone and the ally was shining.he called all his mates …they was all stunned.
the product is quite pricey but you only need a small amount and not very often. its £8 for 250ml.
good luck polishing. this also works wonders on stainless steel

My Dad used to have a load on a project he had going, the best stuff he found was called Lime Lite and was an anti limescale cleaner you use on taps etc, used to make it shine something else.
