Positions are offered on a 12 week temporary to permanent basis and you will transfer to permanent payroll with Aldi on week 13.
Contracts are full time, working 4 on 2 off, which includes working on weekends.
Contracts are a minimum of 40 hours per week on a shift rota basis.
Well there’s another job ruined. 4 on 2 off is an appalling shift for the social life. Working 2 weekends out of 3. Why not just leave it 4 on 4 off and have done with it.
Could someone enlighten me as to how 4 on 2 off works for the company on an operational basis. I mean, if a driver is doing 4 on who is doing his 2 off. Surely they ain’t got folk doing 2 on 4 off. Why not just 4 on 4 off days and nights ?
4 on 2 off is 3 drivers covering 2 trucks…
Truck 1 Mon driver A, Tues driver A, Weds driver A, Thurs driver A, Fri driver B, Sat driver B, Sun driver A
Truck 2 Mon driver C, Tues driver C, Weds driver B, Thurs driver B, Fri driver C, Sat driver C, Sun driver C
It looks a nightmare but on regular runs it works well, driver A does route 1,driver B covers routes 1 and 2, driver C does route 2

That was after the contract change, it was 4 on 4 off before that, but they rewrote the contract and the union did not a thing about it, possibly payback for the previous strike breaking antics around Wapping…those not willing to work an extra 2 days a week for bugger all (nearly all the night drivers) took a decent redundancy package and buggered off, my mate the only one at the depot who stayed regretted doing so.
I was interested in Aldi until I read about this shift pattern. The new Bolton depot not that far from me.
I was prepared to sacrifice some weekends for a ‘market leading’ package of pay & terms, but 4 on 2 off is a dreadful shift pattern. God only knows what the start times will be for the newbies, i’m sure somebody on another thread mentioned 12pm - 12am Think i’d rather cop the few extra hours and stay where I am on 6/7am Monday - Friday.

4-2 is not that bad, especially holiday time book 4 off get 8
Unless you go and find out and ask questions your not going to get the correct info, the job might be what you want, can`t make a decision on rest room gossip or opinions of friends of a friend who has a mate.

Am I missing something? When I went to school 4 + 2 = 6

3 Drivers each work 4 shifts with 2 motors - Driver 3 covers 2 days off Driver 1 and 2 days off Driver 2-
Driver 1 and 2 are never off at the same time 1 has his 2 days off and the 2 then has his days off and Driver 3 covers the gap
Driver 1-2 have only drive 1 motor on their 4 shifts where as Driver 3 will drive both 2 shifts on 1 and 2 shifts on the other on the other
Simple

Yes the 2 rest days before the 4 holiday days 2 rest days after = 8 is that not correct
Had an interview at their Bathgate Distribution depot earlier this year. Application process was similar to what NASA puts would be astronauts through. They were looking for 5 drivers and had 10 of us there. 8 men & 2 women, They held a block interview where we were told about the job and any questions for them. Everybody put a bit into this except one rather butch woman who repeated like a parrot ‘likewise’ to everyone’s comments. I reckon had any one said they had a dose of the clap she would have said ‘likewise’
We were then took into an office individually for a one to one interview and when it was my turn he concentrated on my good and long work record with my present employer with questions like ’ why you want to leave? are you sure your doing the right thing? will you not need to do 2 weeks notice when we need you next week? I sat there thinking I am just here to make the numbers up here!!!
We were also told in the block interview if we don’t start you it doesn’t mean we don’t want you ( well what does it mean? ) resubmit your cv in a month or two! ( so what would have changed in my cv in a month? It was been the same for 15yrs except for my age going up annually.
I never even got a courtesy phone call from them. The two women were started, an ex RAF guy with no haulage experience and 2 other guys
Oh and when I tried to submit my cv again I was told cant apply for the same payscale for 12 months
Make your own mind up about that
