Back in the late 60’s the first truck I had was an Albion Chieftain. I have looked in all the model shops but have never seen one. Does any body know if they were made by any of the truck modelling companies?

What are you wanting exactly ? the Albion was a cracking motor produced in a number of models . 4 Cylinder/super 6 but both were reliable workhorses .I have one or two photos of the Chieftain Bewick Transport ran but have still to master putting them up on the site ! Cheers Bewick.
Hi Bewick, like I said it was the first serious motor I ever had. I would have liked a model as a reminder of days gone bye. I remember doing a night trunk from Huddersfield to Southampton docks sometime around 1960. The snow was feet thick, it took me 18 hours, no heater and only one wiper.
I must be barmy wanting a reminder of times like that. It had a rasp on the exhaust that I still remember, never heard another truck anything like it. I saw one at a local transport fest about five years ago and it brought back memories of happy days, or maybe it should be spelled daze.

There have been a few ready-made Albions as toys or collectors models, mainly with LAD or Ergomatic cabs, but Matchbox did a small scale Chieftain with the exposed radiator and wrap-round windscreens as a Blue Circle cement lorry back in the late 50’s. There have been a few whitemetal and resin kits produced of earlier cab varieties. Which type are you after? Chances are that there’s something available. Any particular scale or livery?
The one I drove was in Hanson red. It was a flatback, not sure on the year of manufacture, possibly 50’s. It was one of the early split windscreen models, before the ergomatic cabs came out.
Hi Yorkshireman, Frank Waller at Road Transport Images brought out a model of a 1954 Albion Chieftain last year. They are resin kits to build, only 1/76 scale (00 gauge) but you can buy parts seperate, cab, chassis, wheels, bodies etc. to make what ever you wish. Not as cheap as some ready made jobs, but he covers a lot of models that others don’t make. I think they will build them for you if you don’t fancy the job, but it is good fun!!
There is also a whitemetal kit of the same style by ABS Models, same scale. They come up on Ebay sometimes.
hi lads a couple of albions waiting for a bit of L-C-T .bumper
Thanks for the replies guys. I’m not allowed to make models any more. Last one I did frightened the life out of the Missus when she walked in the bedroom.
It was a full size one of Cheryl Cole.
Moorhouse & Wainwright? was that the Mill up near Leeds Bradford Airport?
I pretty much grew up in an Albion Clydesdale - hence the name, happy days

Fodenway your a trouble maker. I tried that ABS models tip you gave me, it took me to a site that is still under construction. How long would it take them to stick an Albion Chieftain together if they haven’t built the web site?
I tried again on the ABS advert second on the list. It took me onto a gay mens website. What are you trying to do to me. I logged out of it double quick I can tell you. If I start getting funny e-mails I’m going to log back in with your e-mail address and the nick name “ducky” that’ll teach you.
Bumper thanks for that.

Oh 'eck, it’s not my fault gaffer, ABS Streetscene has been a bugger to get hold of for a long time - just buys up other people’s ranges and sits on them. Might be better trying on Ebay. Troublemaker?..always have been, always will be!
Hey Yorkshireman
I know a few clubs you can visit if you are turning to the dark side :lol
Thanks for the offer sinbin but I don’t think I’ll bother. Spoil me image you see, what with me having 12 kids.
If the wife finds out about the other 9 I could be in real trouble.
Hey Yorkshireman

Reference the Moorhouse and Wainwright Albion, they were from Horsforth, Leeds. The original signwriting had Rayon and Cotton Piece Dyers on the sideboards and Bumper was correct in saying the colour was Green. I had a little involvment in its restoration and it was thought the colour was as in the photo but apparently when it was at one of the first shows it attended an old guy came over and said he knew the company but the colour was wrong it should be Green! Oh well, glad the colour choice was nothing to do with me but I suppose its not the first time that’s happened. Nice little motor but not sure what condition its in today. Franky.
Here’s a watercolour I done not long after the rebuild (obviously in the wrong colour too) taken from a Black and White pic.
I used to deliver wool to a firm up there while I was working for Hanson Haulage Huddersfield, and I can’t remember the name of the woollen mill. Mind you I sometimes have trouble remembering who I am nowadays.
I remember we came up from Pudsey onto Leeds ring road and then turned left at roundabout towards Horsforth, the Mill was down a lane to the left.
Hey up I remember the old coach built cab albion chieftain my grandad ran 2 or 3 of them . My grandad being Frederick Holman (Camblesforth Ltd ). My father Tom Holman drove LWX 11 a 4 wheeler albion chieftain brand new in 1952 and was traded in for another albion chieftain with the L A D cab in about 1961 or 62 . Sorry got no photos cameras were a bit scarce in those days . I have a few more memories perhaps when I have more time will post them on line . Sorry to ■■■■ in but a bit of nostalgia came back . Thats all for now from tamworth hogg ( John ) .
