They now have cameras to help them catch Drink & Drug Drivers.
AI is doing the judging on the Fury fight tmoro night.Thats a coverup for a dodgy result if ever there was one!
I’m not condoning driving under the influence but I’d be more impressed if the police put as much effort into dealing with none motoring crime as they do trying to convince everyone that every road accident that ever happened was caused because of alcohol or drugs.
Try getting a copper to come out because you’ve been burgled or someone’s thrown a brick through your window and you’re likely to be told they don’t have the manpower to attend immediately, but from what I’ve seen if you stand outside a cop shop with a camera they’re likely to come out in droves.
One could be forgiven for thinking that they are taking the easy option to make it look like they’re doing a better job than they really are
I’ll put my tin hat on now
maybe im missing something here (or maybe im not) but if it measures impairment in driving skill what happens if you swerve to avoid a pot hole or a slight distraction. how are you going to defend that. let me guess the chain of events… suspect: officer there was a pot hole… officer; prove it… suspect goes and causes an accident trying to photograph the pot hole
The cameras only alert police of possible offences. They do not provide evidence of impaired driving. If a car is driving particularly quickly or slowly it will send an alert. The evidence has to be obtained by interception and subsequent testing.
What the cameras can detect and provide evidence for is seatbelt and phone offences.
The cameras are not infallible, people here have been wrongly prosecuted for both offences.
We are told by government and police that every potential prosecution is checked by a human police officer, before proceeding. I think the reality is that the human merely rubber stamps each potential offence.
Policing in this country has become very revenuecentric.
We have random breath testing (RBT) where any road or highway can be shutdown to test every driver for alcohol and drugs. Usually a licence check is also done. Police can also randomly pull up any car for a RBT. This entitlement is often misused when police lack enough evidence to justify the real purpose.
Police are often claiming a manpower shortage, as evidenced by slow or no response to reports of minor and not so minor crimes. There is never a shortage of manpower when it comes to non-criminal offences that are dealt with by way of on the spot fines.
I believe more than half of the NSW police force are highway patrol officers.
Universally governments have become reliant upon the low fruit that respectable, law abiding citizens pay.
I don’t think they needed any AI with this one - six times over the limit
