Isnā€™t any kind of pay/bonus per mile now illegal? Sure it is as it was to stop firms encouraging drivers to clock up as many kmā€™s as poss which in turn encouraged illegal driving . . . One example of a driver paid per km years ago never actually stopped for 16 hours straight in Europe until he fell asleep killing himself and several other motorists! Problem was he panicked when he woke up !

Iā€™ve spoken to several drivers here in Canada from Latvia and Romania and they were all on milleage based pay. The Romanians for example would get paid a certain amount of money for every 100km they drove. The Latvians would get a certain amount per km, depending on fuel economy. Wether thats an industry norm in their countries, I have no idea.

Iā€™ve heard it applies for all European companies and Vosa are clamping down on it big time.

Ive seen that vid before, Iā€™m sure it was an Italian and he had a problem with suspension or something??

no defo sleeping, watch the video again and notice the tail back behind him, no one wanted to try overtaking him
due to the manner of his driving, apparently the driver of the van that was overtaking him and then overturned spoke to police in hospital and said he knew he shouldnā€™t have over took him as he had been drifting about for a while, this was backed up when police on the scene questioned following traffic, the gas can/bottle for his cooker caused the explosion. His tacho chip that is protected for such reasons was examined and it shown the wheels of the truck had not stopped for any kind of break in 16hours, not even long enuf for toilet breaks. If u view comments on YouTube there are few on there that say the same, this video and accident report are used in training sessions.

Agromex is one of the biggest haulier from central Poland. They bringing here washing machines from Indesit Bosh etc. Good kit but drivers are paid crap money. If for example you are not good on fuel, let say 28l/100km you get peanuts. Owner are very clever men, looking after kit, yard but not for drivers.

What is the usual method of payment for Polish drivers on international work? Day rate, milleage or a very low base rate with the rest made of of bonuses (fuel bonus for example).

Yes sadly It is normal for them - Eastern European truck drivers salary are based on per trip rate or day rate either per mileage are no one can stop them doing on this

lots of Poles drivers say definitely not recommend it to work for Agromex! their salary around about 1,600zl = Ā£340 for three weeks work then one week off - 3/1 rotas

1,600zl per week or for three weeks?!?!

Betz that picture of them parked up is the estate where truck parking is now banned, double yellow lines everywhere and businesses that do inform on them. The hedges you see behind them are where truckers were throwing their rubbish and bags of crap. Its also the estate where they bckload rags/clothing from (Charity bag stuff )

Yeah I know actually it is not quite driverā€™s fault and they have no choice to park because thier firmā€™s instruction orders to drivers must park at Kettering to wait for have other return backloads so those place Agromex called their ā€œKettering Hubā€!

Yes some drivers are bad at litters! no excuses anway

Charity bags stuff & Rags/ second hands clothing are popular in Eastern European

Have seen some shop signs - ā€œFashions Clothes from Londyn & Amsterdamā€ or " Fashions Francja & Anglia" in Poland,
they does sell second hands clothes, of course they wash first then ironing and sell like hot cakes

For 3 weeks mate

Betz:

Any idea what an ā€˜averageā€™ wage for an international driver would be in Poland?

Well, I am not sure what it is exactly on their international drivers salaries

I have read, told and heard in somewhere that their salaries could be around from 2,000 to 7,000zl (Zlotys) per month but depend on work conditions / how long work away from home periods or destination (per Kms)

Most of Polish hauliers do 4 weeks / 1 weeks off or 3/1 or 6/2 or 8/2 - just depend on different hauliers like Stobart pay bad or Irish Hauliers pay good but long hours work etcā€¦

Best person to ask - our famous Orys!

In recent a Turk driver told me his salary is around Ć¢ā€šĀ¬500 euros per month doing Turkey - UK - Turkey / Syria / Azerbajian/ Georgia to UK. He told me he is not happy - Most Turkish hauliers pay not good enough for drivers also Romanian Betz drivers complains with his salaries, it is seem pretty same as here! no one would winner! all down to customers who want to keep price down on transport costs :unamused:

i understand its nothing to do with rd law but it increases temptation to break rd laws but as i said ā€˜Iā€™ve heardā€™, so Iā€™m not 100% sorry, but I think as a company they can be prosecuted for paying a driver for every mile travelled instead of salary or per hour. If you are paid per hour or set wage u will not break driving laws (in an ideal world but know it happens) but if u are paid by the mile or km a lot of drivers would be then tempted to break the road laws by not stopping for breaks, daily rests or even falsifying tachoā€™s to increase their milage to increase their wage! I stand to be corrected. Im sure itā€™s an EU law but Iā€™m doubting myself now?

I think it would just come down to each countries domestic employment legislation. Some countries dont even have a minimum wage for example. But either way, Vosa can only prosecute actual offences that taken place with regard driving hours, rest periods etc. They cannot fine on a premtive basis just because they think someone will commit an offence later. Though being honest, how are they even going to know how much the driver is paid, let alone by what method.
Its not a legal requirement to carry pay slips or such like. People in the UK may get prosecuted for getting paid for lets say 17 hours a day when legally you can only do 13/15 but Vosa have no juristiction to go and search the office of a Polish transport company for evidence of underhand wages/payments to drivers.
