Agency work drying up fast

Seems general haualge is gonna get hit hard with everything closing soon and agency work is already starting to grind to a hault. The only companies that sound like they might be taking on drivers rather than letting go is the supermarkets. Anyone currently working for one of the big chains in Essex? Hows the demaned for drivers. I’ve only got class 2 at the moment so my pretty limited.

I’d be booking some class 1 lessons next week to try open up some more options but it appears their now cancelling tests.

Realistically?

It’s a gamble …but keep spending money.

Need to keep the economy moving

Keep your class 2 and use it.

There are other essential/core driving jobs apart from food delivery.
Local councils are already struggling in the waste management sector. That includes bin wagons, skip and hooklifter(RORO) drivers as well as loaders.
While these are slightly different from other class 2 jobs it might be worth contacting them.

I work for Sainsbury’s mate, not near you but they don’t normally take on just class 2. However that said they and other supermarkets are crying out for drivers and kit, pickers, loaders, shop staff… Its unprecedented mate.

I’d say call it at your nearest RDC, whether it be supermarket or supplier and drop your CV and have a chat [emoji106]

Had this in my email from the agency I work for.
It is like being “Called up” and all! Perhaps this approach to move to like a “War Footing” is a good idea?

It is busy busy busy at work…
I’m working across this weekend now, already.

Plenty of work, just you’re going to have to be prepared to change and do something you normally don’t. As a decades long agency driver I would advise to go for whatever they offer you, even the jobs that sound bad. I did waste food compactors on class 2 for Sugarich, picking up from commercial bakers, Walkers crisps etc when there was no other work. Ended up loving the job and because nobody else would even try it I was flat out when others were sat at home. Convinced me to get out of my comfort zone and do other things I’d normally never have tried.

I’m flat out with the orange DIY brigade, seems they’re preempting the mass isolation by building up huge in store stocks ahead of a monster discount promo in the next week or so, they recon people are going to keep themselves busy in isolation by doing decorating and home improvement. The home delivery side should also pick up, but I recon that once they’ve shifted all that new stock work will drop off rapidly because customers won’t venture into their stores.

I went to wickes and bnq today, to buy something, chuffing hell, bizzy as supermarkets, think people who can’t work are going to be doing diy, then when this all finishes, the real builders will be overworked putting the bodgery right…

Been subbed out to a supermarket for a bit this week.

There was nearly more subby units in the depot than own account units. There were more agency drivers than employed and driving assessments were seemingly getting carried out on the hour every hour.

Looks like Asda are employing direct on temp 4 weekly rolling contracts rather than relying on agency - tempting @ £16 per hour but I wouldn’t like to take the gamble of no sick pay at the moment

Don’t forget to try screwfix as it’s the same company as B&Q, the same stuff, but the prices are cheaper.

Work has suddenly got very busy for me on agency - Not quite Christmas levels, but enough I need to keep an eye on weekly rests etc

CO OP do, or did, take on class 2 drivers. Can’t believe that has changed.

What a totally and utterly uselessly written webpage that was… No fault of yours, and no criticism was intended. I’ve had to x out that webpage - before my screen blew up!
I’ve heard of “Enabling Cookies” - but that page - really takes the biscuit. :unamused: :stuck_out_tongue:

Regarding those ASDA jobs, what do they class as ‘Nights’. Is that starting in the evening, say 18:00, or starting at stupid o’clock like 00:00?

Nights for us on ambient are definitely 1800-2000 kind of times, we do have some 0100 early morning stuff as well but usually called early mornings Bald bloke is the man to ask about chilled
