Agency - People's Thoughts

Looking through FB this morning, An agency posted this link saying this is a reason why people should love this said agency

Just wanted to know peoples thoughts

6 reasons to use a recruitment agency, for both recruiters and job seekers.

  1. We do the hard work for you!
Employers - We’re sure you’ve got plenty to do, and you don’t need to fill your time up scouting for that candidate. We can select the perfect person from our database of eager job seekers, and leave you free from the search process.
Job Seekers - We can provide you with vacancies suited to you the moment we hear about them, meaning you can rest assured you’re getting the best chance of a job. Alongside your own job search, how could you go wrong?

  2. Build up experience in various sectors

Job Seekers - Whilst out of work, temping can be a great way of trying new things. A few shifts here and a few shifts there can do a number of things. It could help sway a decision over what you’d like to do, it could lead to a permanent job, and it will definitely improve your CV. There’s nothing to lose!

  1. Take the hassle out of payroll
Employers - When using us to recruit on your behalf, we control the candidates pay meaning you can sit back and relax.

  2. Find the best candidate for the role…
Employers - We refer candidates based on their efficiency for the role, meaning no interview process for you. If you simply need someone to fill in for a shift, or through a busy season, we can provide the right worker for you.

  3. …and find the right role for you!
Job Seekers - Choose what you want to do, and find an environment that suits you. We will contact you if your skills and experience match a vacancy, and you have registered interest in the particular kind of work.

  4. Banish last minute worries

Employers - Is your day ruined by employes not showing up or calling in sick? Fear not! We have a hoard of potential candidates just waiting to hear from us. All candidates are told that they could potentially be contacted in the morning to start shortly, so rest assured and contact us today!

Usual agency BS or somewhat close to the truth?

Cheers

  1. Take the hassle out of payroll
Employers - When using us to recruit on your behalf, we control the candidates pay meaning you can sit back and relax. Shame the staff cannot.

  2. Find the best candidate for the role…
Employers - We refer candidates based on their efficiency for the role, meaning no interview process for you. Job Seekers - Choose what you want to do, and find an environment that suits you. We will contact you if your skills and experience match a vacancy, and you have registered interest in the particular kind of work. Does that mean I won’t keep being woken up by calls all hours asking me if I want that job that’s “outside my area” or “below the minimum rate” I’ve already set on file?

  4. Banish last minute worries
Employers - Is your day ruined by employes not showing up or calling in sick? Fear not! We have a hoard of potential candidates just waiting to hear from us. All candidates are told that they could potentially be contacted in the morning to start shortly, so rest assured and contact us today!

Alas, less last minute worries for a client is total last minute worries for the staff. Don’t you just HATE being phoned up in the middle of dinner, or after you’ve been up and about all day asking you to fill a shift 40 miles away starting in an hour?

Usual agency BS or somewhat close to the truth?
At least we’re agreed on this point.

I’m going to take a punt at approximately 75% of candidates registering, not being in possession of a clean licence. The 6 point cap is just a requirement for insurance purposes; and I don’t think the fact that they allow for 6 points is going to be a selling point towards a client. Also, if a client requests clean licences only, there’s a strong probability that they’re willing to pay a healthy rate for it, which means a better rate for the driver. Best drivers, best rates. On paper at least.

  2. Build up experience in various sectors mmm… transport days, transport nights, and transport weekends.
That’s like saying ‘retail’ is dealing with just menswear and everyone is a sales assistant. :unamused: One day you could be multi-dropping flooring / carpets, and another doing one or two drops 100 miles away for a bakery / supermarket. If you want variety, it’s plausible.

Job Seekers - Whilst out of work, temping can be a great way of trying new things. A few shifts here and a few shifts there can do a number of things. It could help sway a decision over what you’d like to do, it could lead to a permanent job, and it will definitely improve your CV. There’s nothing to lose! Except your sanity perhaps…
Then you best get cracking on finding your own full time job!
3. Take the hassle out of payroll
Employers - When using us to recruit on your behalf, we control the candidates pay meaning you can sit back and relax. Shame the staff cannot.
Payroll issues are mostly agency/driver sided and don’t really affect clients, granted. In terms of clients, it does mean “We’re billing you for this much, thanks.”

  1. Find the best candidate for the role…
Employers - We refer candidates based on their efficiency for the role, meaning no interview process for you. If you simply need someone to fill in for a shift, or through a busy season, we can provide the right worker for you. Prepared to work for less money, & stupid O’clock starts at distance no doubt.
I’ve placed multiple drivers looking for full time work in an environment that suits them. Be it someone that is looking to get off the road into an office role but with optional driving / overtime available, or someone that’s had children / a change in lifestyle and finds agency suits them better, and the company. One of my client that’s ad-hoc usage (holiday / sickness) wants agency drivers only - no one looking for full time.

  2. …and find the right role for you!
Job Seekers - Choose what you want to do, and find an environment that suits you. We will contact you if your skills and experience match a vacancy, and you have registered interest in the particular kind of work. Does that mean I won’t keep being woken up by calls all hours asking me if I want that job that’s “outside my area” or “below the minimum rate” I’ve already set on file?
Essentially, it should. Very agency dependant imo and when I’m asking a favour of my drivers (that could be further out for example), I always offer them an incentive. Yesterday infact I paid petrol and tolls for one driver that accepted a shift in Kent for me, plus he got a nice Sunday rate.

Because recruitment consultants just love being called whilst they’re having their dinner, or at 4am having taken their last call at midnight because someone hasn’t turned up. Aside from that, if you’re available and have been pestering for work, offering you something a bit out of the way could be better than nothing - not to mention it’s a shift they would’ve just had called in, not something they’ve been sat on all day / week and decided last minute they couldn’t cover it. Again, if this was my situation I’d probably offer expenses and ask the client for some leniency in start times.

Usual agency BS or somewhat close to the truth?
At least we’re agreed on this point.
Usual agency ■■■■■■■■ - entirely. What else are you expecting to read? That usual ■■■■■■■■ has spawned agency after agency turning a profit so it can’t be complete bull to every client that reads it, and if drivers keep coming through the door looking for work, it won’t change. I disagree with a lot of agency practices and I make an effort to personalise all of my letters to clients. I handpick drivers that I think would be suitable for those clients and as best fit as I can to what the drivers in particular are looking for. Most agencies begin from one of two places - someone that’s in the industry they want to start supplying staff for, or someone that’s been in recruitment and has transferred. If you were running your own agency - what would your promotional material look like? How would your ads read? What would be your key selling points to clients? I hate to say it but I can’t imagine it would differ greatly from the above.

Cheers

Winseer I normally enjoy your posts and you’re pretty reasonable, but there are a couple of points on here that I thought " "

Comments in blue…

Agenceys are like parasites in the sense they ■■■■ the drivers rate down to feed themselfs.out of intreast,if a drivers paid 8 pound a hour what does the agencey get paid by the client per hour
