Agencies that deal with music/motorsport/exhibition work

Looking for info of agencies that deal in the above sector. Much appreciated.

Not sure there is any now. Buskins used to be the players but most companies just have their own list of drivers and possibles. But I stand to be corrected

There is a long list of people they can call upon, no agencies.

I don’t even think that Stobarts use their agency complement for the “roadcrew” jobs.

Word has it that full timers are expected to assist in all aspects of motor racing support, stadium HR etc. - except “watching the proceedings”.

You might find yourself in some racetrack back kitchen doing some spud bashing - if it’s not time for you to go home yet. :smiling_imp:

I’ve yet to be sent on a night out as agency either. I think it might have something to do with “being paid by the hour”.

Imagine how much one could coin it in for even doing a single night out, say London to Inverness - and back the next day…
I’d book 2x15 hour shifts and a night out for that if I could… :sunglasses:

This might explain why in nearly a quarter of a century of driving trucks - I’ve never been to Ireland, Scotland, Wales, or even Cornwall in a truck as yet! :unamused:

Try mpds and get in touch with companies direct as they use casual drivers.
It can be hard work if you’ve got a stand to build then you’ll be doing security for the stand possibly. Its in no way glamourous and its usually worked on a day rate

See if mikejackson on here can get you a start somewhere, apparently he is very well respected

The first stint I did for Murfitts yonks ago was to Comunanza and Milan and that was thru an agency in Needham Market

If you’re looking for work in music or exhibition send me a mail or pm. I am always looking for drivers that are will to work whilst on site to move trailers around or just drive the clients van.

There are agencies for some of the F1 truck driving jobs, it used to be they got the trucks to the circuit on the Tuesday, set up and flew home Wednesday, then got flown back on Sunday to help pack up and drive home or the next circuit.

But the drivers were normally ex-race team truckles, who knew the job, but didn’t want to spend all the time away that’s required for f1.

As for teams in other race series, if we need another driver, there are freelance drivers we can call upon, but as others have said it’s a list of people we know and trust. We have over a £1m of cars and equipment plus the truck and trailer so you’re not going to let that in the hands of somebody you don’t know, although I do know a team who got an agency driver to bring their truck back from the Paul Ricard circuit without checking what he’d done before. He’d never driven in abroad and never driven a left hand drive truck, he scraped their trailer down the first peage causing £1000’s of damage. Their own fault for not asking a few basic questions and trying to do things on the cheap.

Normally this time of year the hospitality companies start looking for drivers/riggers, as they call them, Winseer had it right when he said you work hard and won’t see the race, that’s the downside, It might sound like a thankless job, but many people really appreciate the hospitality crews, I know I do, I look forward to a decent meal and a chance to sit down. from what I’ve seen it’s the people who make or break the job, not what you’re actually doing.

Try Procar, Edwards or MSL for hospitality jobs.

Try Trans Am or Fly by Night for music/touring.

Try CARS for delivering classic and prestige cars to events round Europe.

Don’t know about that muckles we got to see each race we went expect Silverstone. But it was a vendor out fit I was with not a race team

last year stobart used agency on their f1 team.

i think their main agency is called cam european based near peterborough.

hope that helps.

Incorrect on all aspects. Ive heard that back in the days of the rally motorsport spud bashing was common. Stobarts did use agency lads towards the back end of last years F1 season. Its a marmite job and you`ll either love it or hate it like any job. Some love the trolley dolley supermarket work and some love the hairy arsed tipping lark (i personally enjoyed both of the above apart from coming home dirtier than a pig in ■■■■ (and that was from the back of tesco trailers, i found tippers cleaner haha))

All the paddock teams have professional kitchen staff who do a damned good job of feeding multi-millionaires and their teams so why on earth would they want a “truck driver” ■■■■■■■ up their professionalism? Ive yet to see a spud or carrot yet in F1 that wasnt on a plate in front of me to be eaten by me (usually besides a juicy medium rare entrecôte of beef )

Some contracts are better than other and some require different things from the “Driver/Riggers” I stand to be corrected but i believe the Williams lads do a shift a race of pot washing and general cleaning duties in the motorhome. Does a days washing pots every 2 weeks justify getting an all access pass to all european races? to some yes, to others probably not.

About the most demanding thing i personally had to do last season (apart from build a ■■■■ hot multimillion hopstitality building then take it down 56 days later) on a race weekend was a shift of a night security which mostly entailed drinking coffee, smoking and watching movies on either laptop or Sky. The other 4 days between builds was “on call” ie free to dispense of your own time. I`ve watched a couple of the races from the pit lane, from the grandstand and various parts of the tracks but my personal favourite place to watch f1 is in a bar on TV with a cold beer as you actually see more of the race.

As said its marmite job, Youd love it or youd hate it but it most definitely is an experience like none other you can probably tell your grand kids in years to come, The one i know ill tell already is when watching a race with kids in later years and the latest young hotshot driver comes storming thru the "tunnel" ill be able to say i once drove a 44ton truck thru there. I can honestly say the hardest part is spending 4-8 weeks away at a time and thats what makes or breaks most guys who try it, I enjoyed last season and think this year could be even better than last.

Don’t forget film/tv work either. I prefered it to either Motorsport or Music and much of it uk work. Arena, Visions and CTV are probably the better of the bunch, whilst the lower end would be Facilities work with the likes of Translux, Onset, Andy Dixon or BTFS. Exhibition work is good too, but it’s best to get on something that you ‘rig and husband’, like a full on bespoke build promotional vehicle as opposed to just moving stage and set in a swan neck trailer. Events to Go over in Mansfield are usually looking for Drivers for ad hoc work, but anybody whose selective for starters and doesn’t want to spend months away in Europe usually fall by the wayside (like me).

When I worked for FOM out of Biggin Hill some 12 years back ‘Driver/Rigging’ it was one hell of a global drinking session for 3 years. Great fun!!

Fair enough, my experience and others experience is not seeing much of the race, but then we were busy packing up and trying to get out before the f1 race finished, didn’t even se much of our own race as was in the pit lane ready for the pit stops. Saw more of the race in the hotel in the evening.
Even with not seeing much of the racing and even if you might have to do the odd “menial” chore I think the job is far better than being on haulage, I’ve been working in motorsport for 12 years on and off and there have been many bad times that made me wonder why. But also far more good times that answer the question why do I do it.

We were on the vendor side so had to wait for the areas to clear before we could drop the stands

+1 hit the nail on the head there muckles. the good far outweigh the bad.

Might be worth a look here:http://www.procar.co.uk
I did a job with them a few years ago on F1.
