Age limit italy

I have heard on the grapevine that there is, or going to be a 60 years old age limit on drivers of 40 ton trucks traveling to italy has anyone heard anything about this

Yes, I’ve heard about it. One of the regular emails I get, with information on driving in various European countiries, had a warning about this. This is a quote from that email.

Para 2 Article 115 of the Italian Highway Code prohibits drivers over 65 years old driving heavy trucks, and between 60-65 years old are limited to driving trucks up to 20 tonnes only.

I am amazed at this but this is not a EU
ruleing and surely does not then have any
effect on those who do not come from ITALY
AND HOW OLD IS THIS LAW AS we have persons
who do Italy and they are 60 or over ,and we
have not had any problems ,

No idea Pete, I’m only passing on the information I was given. I haven’t looked into it as it doesn’t, and is unlikely to affect me. I think the warning was given because it is something they are starting to enforce.

Apparently fom October 1st this year, it is now illegal to discriminate against anybody because of their age, an EU directive I believe!!! (surprise, surprise!!)

hence you could,theoretically, see 70 year old truck drivers in Italy, 65 year old fire fighters in the UK :open_mouth: etc etc…the only proviso seems to be that you would have to pass whatever medical standards that may be applied to that particular form of employment and for that age!!

Apperently you cannot even ask a job applicant their date of birth or age because that would/could be percieved as being “AGEIST”!!! :open_mouth: :imp:

And so the world (or the UK in this case) gets a little bit madder!!

Thanks for the info on age limit in italy ill pass it on to alec who is 69 years old and still doing italy with a fridge as he has been doing for years now ,his apprentiship was with mcneils of glasgow doing middle east and he has good stories to tell

I,ll give him a ring when i,m heading south tonight i think his grandaughter is on the internet mind thou its about the third glass of red wine when he starts the yarns about the old days, thats me offline till i return from brittany on friday and what a interesting website this is so by for now…
