afghanistan

if anyone has got any info on jobs in Afghanistan (companies taking on drivers) it would be very much appreciated.

Are you off your rocker or something ?
I wouldn’t go to a hell hole with about a 80 % chance of getting blown to kingdom come.

Um…I don’t want to cause offence or anything to your post but we have 6 loads from AZMEX to the Bronx between
now and Xmas…its not quite as exciting as Afghanistan but if you are caught outside the delivery point it can be challenging. And all this is after the law enforcement “clean up”
Be careful what you wish for…

I work in the Bronx 90% of the time and find nothing threatening whatsoever, it’s just a case of using common sense.
80% of the Bronx is a beautifull area, Van Courtland park for instance and Broadway is a very long and friendly main street full od local culture. The only time I ever felt the slightest bit nervous was at 04.00 am on a back street in Hunts Point.

Never tipped or loaded in the Bronx, just been down the cross Bronx expressway millions of times but I have done several deliveries in to various parts of Brooklyn and while its an awful place to go with a truck with regards accessing places, it didnt seem that dangerous. The worst places I have ever been are without a doubt Detroit, followed by Camden, NJ.

I have walked all over the Bronx (in daylight) and never had a problem, it is much more dangerous in my home town of Bradford.
Van Cortland Park has some cricket pitches as well.

Fluor, dyncorp are the main ones for afghan.
They prefer you to have adr for the job but be prepared for a long wait and jump through a lot of hoops for the recruiter.

There’s only a few small spots in the Bronx that are shady anyway. When you think that City Island is for instance in the same borough.
I agree with Detroit and Camden, the area of Miami near the airportis a bit nasty and Trenton Nj in the down town area are not advisable for wanderring around.

As for any Afghan adventure … a million a day wouldn’t drag me to a 90% chance of being topped.

Funnily enough, at my time at Donnelly Farms, when I was compelled to go to these sorts of places they were the worst spots. Had a driver held up at gun point in Detroit and then run over with a car by the attackers girlfriend and seriously hospitalised, his own fault for parking there over night though. We had another driver held up at knife point in Camden while waiting to load at Del Monte in the port area and the very same driver got his truck stolen in Miami. The air con had broken down in the height of summer so it was in a freightliner dealer over night and he went and checked in to a motel across the road…next morning the truck was gone. A month or so later the truck was found, still with full tanks of fuel, though they had stolen all the tires and put old crap ones back on to drive the truck away to dump it, plus his valuables in the cab were gone too. When the boss brought the truck back up to Canada, you should have smelt the rotten mess in the fridge!!!
