does anybody now anything about the aetr rules,i run to switzerland fairly often and have been told i can run on aetr rules going there and back, how do these rules differ over eu drivers hours law?
They are the same as the EU rules were prior to 11th April last year. That means breaks can be in 2 or 3 parts, no restriction on 15 minutes then 30. Split daily rest can be 8 + 1 or 2 other parts totalling 4 hours, minimum 1 hour to count. Reduced daily rest 3 x per week, not between weekly rest periods. Interrupted daily rest for ferry or train can only be one movement and two hours added to daily rest. No weekly driving limit. Weekly rest can only be reduced to 24 hours away from base, reduced to minimum of 36 hours at base.
ROG, don’t even think about it, cos you’ll get shot (again)…
thanks for that coffeeholic, does that mean i can do a 16 hour shift then 8hours off if i have 4hours rest during shift on a journey to/from swiss?

If your on AETR rules, then your on them for the complete trip.
So you can’t use the 2 ferry movements EU rule on Monday on the way out.
Then use the 8 + 4 split rest AETR rule on Tuesday, for example.
