One of the nicest locations and days out taking photo’s that Tracy and myself have had.
Taken on " The Heart of Wales Roadrun 2012 " near Barmouth North Wales.

hiya,
That’s cracking Dave, you’re pampering me now and I’ll bet our friend Mr Webb
is equally as appreciative as many more AEC enthusiasts will be, thanks again.

I have a book at home, written by Jeremy Clarkson, and in it
he describes the Spitfire as…

“A beautiful looking aircraft,with a fantastic soundtrck”

Change “aircraft” to “lorry” and it describes an AEC!!!

Probably been on before but always worth another look.
Anybody know if it was built for a particular contract or just to keep the height down on machinery moves where size and weight
were not an issue. If its been discussed before my apologies.
Mike.

A “one off” built for Pickfords as a low deck height machinery carrier. It was based on Mammoth Major Mk.2 components, mid-1930s. Typical of AEC’s superb customer relations policy, they would build what the customer wanted if it were possible and feasible.

AEC? Or a BSA (Bit Stuck Anywhere)? & what’s that just in view on the right?

This is taken at Winkleigh in North Devon, there’s a big collection of old gear there. I went there in the late 80’s and saw both of these.

I think the the AEC was a one off built by Mann Eggerton? The Truck on the right is a Leyland Beaver Chinese six ‘Steer’ that was previously used as a tow truck with a bus company.

Here’s a better pic of the Beaver .

Hi NZ JAMIE,
I thought it looked like a Beaver windscreen, but it was what liked like a bigger chrome grill that was making me wonder if it was a bit of a mongrel, although in the pic you have posted the grill is the normal slat-design!
