HI 3300 John ,what engine is in your motor , we ran a few AEC s a1949 Monarc 7/ 7 4 speed box ,38 mph up hill down dale ,a Maudsley with AEC 7/7 5 speed box ,unit ex Armstrongs ,Liverpool ,38 mph ,and TWO 8 wheeler ex BRS contract ,from Bristol ,area ,a dark green colour ,single drive 6 wheel braking, REG NO 224 CFJ 226 CFJ ,9/6 , 5 speed box s ,38 MPH done us well exept for injector pipes ,used them by the gross, CHEERS Barry

Hiya barry, she’s a 11.3 690 with a rotory pump…i did think it was a 691 but she only has one air cleaner.
we have a 6 speed box with high ratio diffs. i did do 60mph with her and i know theres more left as the pedal
catches the floor and dos’nt go right down. i’ll leave it like that as that speed is’nt needed. she potters along at
50mph no trouble. its a bit on the loud side at that speed.i got some of them ear defenders at the weekend.
you may see me pottering around as i only live in Buckley…I got a fridge box on her now, thats going to be the
living van…all good fun
John

HI 3300 John ,i did come to look for you i seen a man working working on a sports car ,He said he did nout know you ,i remember BRS ,QUEENS FERRY ,had a oad of AEC,mandators, with 11 ,litre and 6 speed /overdrive boxes ,flying macheens ,yours Barry

NZ JAMIE:
Great work with the MM6 over the winter John mate, well done.

Here’s another MM6,but an Ergo and a V8 too! What a cracker, looks like it’s in Australia. Note how Leyland have put their name to it. Not many of these went to Oz,so it’s very rare.

Do you know if any survived Jamie?

Looking great John, what a tranformation from last seeing it at smallwood last year. Its a credit to you.Didn’t get chance to get down to the show this year but will definately be at smallwood at the end of the month if you are taking her along.

Hiya stanfield, i’ll not be at smallwood this year, its the 100 year AEC bithday bash at Newark. theres a roadrun from southhall to
newark(night out).there’s somthing like 100 aec’s due to be shown, plus any other lorries that turn up. sounds like a good weekend to me.
John

Are you doing the run from Southall John ? It should be a good show this year i just hope i can make it

Hiya ramone…no!! i live in north wales so i’ll just go across to newark…i would think it would cost me £300+ to
go down to southall then run back up to Newark and back home.
John

I dont blame you John ,i hope someone films it ,are they starting near the old site i know its well gone but i think there`s a small building still there from the past?

All these pages of AECs and no BRS photos! Here’s a couple

Hi english truck-enthusiasts!

To be honest, as a german i don’t have too much knowledge about the english truck manufacturers…
But the follwing picture shows (in my opinion) an AEC Mammoth Major !?
Took this picture back in 1998 in Minas/Uruguay.
Is this an original 8-legger or is it self-made?

Good night

Well it looks very much original to me. Regards Larry.

Yes, I agree. It looks like a Mk.III with the longer export model wheelbase.

I wish I could have had those type mirrors on my MK3 Graham,it looks an impressive motor with that wheelbase.

Here i got another one from Montevideo/Uruguay in 1998.

Still working in 1998 , English engineering at its best

some more good British lorries

Do you remember when we used to build lorries? And hold on to your hat, “WE USED TO EXPORT THEM TOO”! :open_mouth: :open_mouth:

I thought i better bring this thread back to life instead of hijacking Gingerfolds 2 pedal Beaver thread with my inane questions, i mentioned this on another thread but rather than percivere with the basic ergo i wonder why they didn`t produce a lower version of the marathon just like Scania did at the time with the 110/111 and 80/81 ,it would have been a much better enviroment for the driver to work in

Probably because they thought the Ergo cab was good enough for the needs even by the mid Seventies and once it did seem to need an upgrade the decision was firmly in the hands of Leyland, remember the merger of the two companies began in 1962 so by the mid 70’s the struggling Leyland concern would have considered the demise of its partner and competitor for a good few years, and hardly likely to throw money at AEC it didn’t have. I suppose the V8 Mandator, could be said to have an improved version of the cab, which basically was an excellent working environment for the driver in its original build anyway. There were some changes over the years to the Ergo AEC models but mainly to driveline, chassis components etc and not much to the cab you would notice. I wonder if, had Leyland been took over by AEC what differences there would have been to the two marques and if AEC management would have made a better job of it. Franky.

Your postings are far from inane, more like a beacon of sanity among the fundamentalists who seem the majority on this forum and I enjoy reading the possibilities and ideas you put forward on my Fri/Sat visits ,which is often enough for me. But back to the matter in hand, I would have said the situation was the opposite in that the ergo cab was a lower version of the Marathon in that I thought the Marathon was an extended (upwards) ergo cab anyway.I’ve done plenty of ergo miles but never been in a Marathon so I’m basing that assumption on what I’ve read or thought I’d read.

Well yes your right they built the Marathon up from the original ergo but the interior was much more driver friendly and if they took the bottom bit off (i`m talking very basic here) the clydesdale grill and lowered the cab so the bonnet inside wasnt too intrusive i think they would have had the basis of a decent cab for the time look how low the floor is , just my thoughts ,maybe i have too much time on my hands
