This was the only AEC W & J Riding ever ran

I have put this on the J&E Transport thread aswell as this one because it was once owned by them and is now being restored into their livery by Len Isherwood of Bacup Lancs

Hello all, just idle thoughts about AEC s various cabs, and the attractiveness thereof. Anybody remember those really handsome AECs assembled in Portugal by UTIC? Local content was provided by the cab, which resembled an Ergomatic in size, but had a “Plaxtonesque” front. They were about in the early 70s, as were plenty of the earlier Caetano cab versions. Good market for UK manufacturers with ERF, Foden, (Poden), and Atkinson, all having local plants. I recall regularly seeing a Bennets of Thame Mk 1 Atkinson in Lisbon area , and I think UTIC also assembled Scammell Crusaders for Portugal. Cheerio for now.

There may have been some here, but I think they were Mandators with lazy axles fitted.

Yeah mate, that’d be the go,it would be a bit of fun loading her up to about 40-45 tonne and giving the old banga a work out on some good hills. And hope she didn’t get too hot!

I seen this pic before and often thought what a great looking bit of gear,I wonder where she went,South America maybe?

Note the Maudsley based hub reductions on the back end,I think these were only fitted to export AEC’s There were lots here fitted with them. They look very simular to the hubs fitted to heavy weight Hippo’s and Octopus’s,but are different.

I would have guessed at South Africa or Australia but could be wrong i usually am

Being a left ■■■■■■ I wouldn’t have thought so mate. Europe,or South America,Leyland and AEC had a good following in South America.

Or it was quite possable a demo truck for european shows.
