I thought perhaps a European Driver/Moderator would give a little more advice then that but this is only a forum for truckers who want help so what the hell.

Speak Flemish, if you can’t, speak English very loudly & very slowly, they won’t understand you but at least you will be making an effort !

Just take it slow and steady for the first week or so. Its not as bad as you think its gonna be.
Be careful where you park up for the night. Just use common sense and try for busy well lit areas, MSA’s mainly until you get to know your way round a bit.
Talk to other drivers on the boat or the stinky train, most of us are only to happy to help and give advice.

Don’t speak French to the Flemish in the North of Belgium … they don’t like it  Most people ( under say 30’ish ) often speak some English.
If you can at least learn a few words / phrases … please / thank you etc … people are often more inclined to help you.

Hi, I am sure you will have been told about the no overtaking on all dual carriageways in Belgium normally between 07.00 and 19.00 hrs. also make sure you have the breathalyser kits.
same as whats been said before just take your time. !!!
Good luck

Overtaking in the rain is 50 € fine.

Which Benelux countries will you be going to?
If you’re not doing Denmark and Sweden then you won’t need to pass through Germany and get used to the maut. You’ll just need a vignette. The vignette covers your road tax for The Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg, Denmark, and Sweden.
If you’re doing it week in week out youre probably best off getting it monthly. You can get it online with your fuel card.

Belgium has an Overtaking Ban on all two lane dual carraigeways and motorways, unless the blue signs on the verges say otherwise. They also have a blanket ban on overtaking in the rain.

Breathalyser Kits were a French thing, it’s been dropped. You don’t need them now.

Benelux, incase there is any misunderstanding, is short for **Be**lgium, **Ne**derland, **Lux**embourg.

you will usually find someone who speaks English (probably better than you  ) I found that being pleasant/sociable goes a long way.good luck and enjoy

The advice asked for is regarding driving, not politics. :unamused:
Check out a Benelux vignette. It covers you for Denmark and Sweden as well as The Netherland, Belgium, and Luxembourg.

Be aware of the 4m maximum trailer height in Europe, especially in Holland, where you will inevitably hit a bridge if running more than 4m.

When did that happen?

I think it’s worth saying that it used to tricky to find anywhere that sold the Vignette in Belgium.

Probably best to buy it (at the ferry/train terminal) before you ship out and if you’re not sure how long you’ll be, add a day.

It would be nice if someone with a computer could post the Vignette symbol so the OP knows what to look for…

Good luck,

W

Remember to check your truck and trailer 1 last time before shipping backhome
