Hi malcolmj,
Tremcards haven’t stopped mate, it’s simply that they’re no longer required.
A consignor is allowed to give you a Tremcard, but you can’t be asked for one by the police/VOSA.

I’ve no idea what the lawgiver’s thinking was, but it’s now far easier without having to have a Tremcard for every substance on board plus a translation of it for the country where you loaded, each country that you’ll pass through and the country of destination.

Instead of a Tremcard, you now have to have a four-page document called “Instructions In Writing” (IIW.)
You only need this document in a language that you (the driver) can understand, NO translations are necessary.

The new IIW came out for ADR (international work) on 01/01/09 with a transition period lasing until 30/06/09. The new IIW became mandatory for UK national work on 30/06/09.
The first version of the four-page IIW has been revised, with two new placards added.
The responsibility for providing the IIW now rests with the carrier (the owner of the vehicle,) but just to save you from some international grief and requests to top-up European police pension funds, you can get the latest version of the IIW here:

For international work, the IIW MUST be printed in colour and MUST be four pages exactly as per the link I’ve given.

I answered a similar question about ADR tunnel codes for spaniard1 just here:

I hope it helps, but if you get stuck, please post up any more questions.
