ADR training west midlands

Hi first post on here!

I’m looking for some recommendations for ADR training in the Midlands, preferably Oldbury, West Bromwich area. I’ve been online and found a couple but their training centres are a good hours drive away.

Also when you’ve sat your test does anyone know how long it takes for the results to come back?

Thanks in advance

Kempie

If the training provider runs the paper-based exams, the waiting time for an ADR card is up to 5 weeks.

If the training provider runs the online exams, the waiting time for an ADR card is usually less than a fortnight.

:bulb: If getting your ADR card quickly is important, please ask the question about which type of exams the provider offers at the time you make your booking.

Thanks Dave, I’m working my way through the list.

It’s shocking the difference in price between some trainers. It’s gone from £475 to £820.

Anyway fingers crossed I’ll get on one asap.

It isn’t a desperate need to get my ADR but I’d rather get it sooner than later. Just taken redundancy so want to get back into it asap.

Cheers for your help.

Hi Kempie,

My guess is that some of them assume you want periodic DCPC hours. However, YOU can choose whether to have them or not.

Some providers don’t always say whether they’ve quoted to include VAT, it’s best to ask.

Some providers don’t always say whether they’ve quoted to include the price of the exam marking fees, it’s best to ask.
The awarding body (SQA) charges a marking fee of £20 per exam paper OR per each online test.

Please ask about the exam ‘route.’ The Common Characteristics route is route is far cheaper than the ‘separate Classes’ route, but both will get you exactly the same ADR Card.

Some providers don’t always tell you that the tanker module is optional, so I’ll tell you that the tanker module IS optional at YOUR choice.

I hope this helps.

Hi Soud,

Thanks for the tip.

It’s always good to get a comment from somebody who has had a positive experience.

I posted the contact details straight out of my master list of ADR providers, but I’ve not actually dealt with any of the companies I mentioned, so your feedback might be very helpful to Kempie.

I hope he sees it.

I send my lads to S.D.H training in Spring Road Wolverhampton (opp Cullina’s yard) its around the £520 mark for tanks and packages and 28 hrs DCPC, £60 cheaper I think if you do not require the DCPC hours, ask for Bob Williams

Thanks for all the help, I spoke to John he was very helpful on the phone. I also spoke to Bob but he hasn’t got a course starting until 3rd July. I’m just waiting on one more call back then I’m going to make my decision.

I’ve just been made redundant so I’m putting myself through the ADR and would like to find the best value for money. I will be needing the CPC hours as I’ve only got 1 module banked.

I’m looking at getting in at BOC, heard the moneys quite good and its only down the road. Just spent the last 5 years at Berendsen…

Thanks again

Double check you training provider is JAUPUT registered if you need the DCPC hours Kempie, if you have a 7hr banked tanks and packages will give you the 28 hrs you require, just packages is 21 hrs, good luck with it all! Cheer’s Pete

Just a quick note Pete…

Not all ADR providers have registered their tanker module with JAUPT, and there are those who took a 1yr ‘punt’ and registered it but didn’t re-register once the first year came to an end.

There are various reasons for this, but the two that I hear the most (from various providers) are:

#1 difficulty writing a programme and making it fit both JAUPT and SQA’s criteria.

#2 a lot of ADR providers don’t get that many of the guys on the courses wishing to stay on to take the tanker module.
I’d say that the retention rate is 40% at best, sometimes less, rarely more.

Just to let you know I’ve booked myself in with Darren at Trans service and Bill Smith at Freightliner is actually doing the course. I’ve spoke to both of them and they were very helpful. I start two weeks today 19.6

And after some calling around I got the best deal. £420 all in including CPC, bearing in mind that one company wanted £820…

Anyway once again thanks for your help.

Transervice (if it’s the one in Church Lane that is ) have got Class 1 and 2 vacancies according to stickers on the back of their trucks…don’t think they deliver ADR kit though.

Its where I’m doing my ADR training mate, not working.

Yes I know,I assumed that you were currently out work, having been made redundant.
If so,it would be a wage until you’ve sorted out an ADR job…that’s all :unamused:
