ADR question for Diesel Dave

If you know the drop is too tight for an artic, and will take ages of faffing about to dodge double parked cars,a bit of blind reversing and the product you are delivering is ADR,but it is small and light enough to carry by hand.
Can you put the drum, packet, bottle in the well of the passenger seat so you can hand deliver it and walk down the road to the client with it■■?
Not for the whole journey, just until you are in the area,to open the trailer and place it in the cab.
My old boss had a contract to supply Iberia with the starting cartridges that ignite jet engines,he told us to place them in the cab,so they do not crushed by pallets,he used to ship refurbed jet engines to Madrid Barajas airport.

So what exactly is your question for Dave?
Is it, - Can I put a light parcel of ADR material in my cab, for convenience when doing a hand delivery, when leaving the previous delivery ?
Or
Is it, - can my boss instruct me to put a light parcel of ADR material in my cab for the whole journey, including nights out in my cab ?
Or
Is it actually two questions but you forgot to put an ‘s’ on the end of question in your title?

Personally I would say yes to the first question and no to the second. Particularly as you’re going to share your cab with ADR material whilst sleeping.

Toby, in your case, you should try carrying ether or chloroform in a bottle in your cab

Why on earth would you want to keep chemicals in your living quarters and bedroom?

Hi Toby,

Whilst there’s nothing in ADR that actually forbids you from carrying dangerous goods in your cab, I guess that the lawmakers didn’t think they’d need to include such a provision. :unamused:

What is written in ADR though is that dangerous goods must be secured such that they cannot move around, so I’d say that you’d probably fall down on that one.

There’s a C&U Regs provision that says that the tractive unit of an artic can’t be used on its own to carry goods, so the enforcement authorities would probably throw that one at you too!!

Then there’s general H&S law that says that carrying dangerous goods in that manner isn’t really a good idea, so there are a few reasons why you could get nicked for carrying dangerous goods in a vehicle cab.

You already know that those cartridges emit a high pressure blast sufficient to start/rotate a jet engine, so how do you think your ear drums would fare if just one cartridge were to go off accidentally in a vehicle cab??

In the words of John Mc Enroe, you cannot be serious!!

Maybe the cab side locker or under the bunk,or the safest compartment is the trailer, thanks for the heads up,i would not need an alarm clock if i accidently switch on the night heater button, things that that go bang and pop in the night.
Or the locker box on the side of the trailer.

How [zb]ing stupid do you have to try and be Toby?

The trailer is the ONLY place for that sort of thing. The further away from where you are the better (back at the depot if you worked for me). If I had to deliver them to a pig of a place to get an artic into, I’d put them right at the back door of my trailer. Pull up outside the drop, walk to the back of my trailer, collect the box and deliver by hand. It’s that [zb]ing simple and takes an extra 30 seconds maybe. Screw the [zb] loaf man :unamused:

All sorted,muchas gracias,merci beaucoup.
