ADR Initial course

dazask:
Hi Dieseldave cheers for all the info mate.yeah im from newcastle upon tyne so anymore adr providers would be great as i could shop around and try and get the price down abit.

Hi dazask, Here are some ADR providers in your area, but please read the next bit carefully.

When you ask for prices, you need to ask the following questions:

What is the price of the tuition?
Will I have to pay VAT on that?
What exam route do you use? (5/6 exams or 9/10 exams?)
Are the ADR exam marking fees included in the price you have given me?
What are the arrangements/costs for tea/coffee and lunch?
Do you offer DCPC?
If so, what is the cost of DCPC?

(The providers Iā€™ve listed are in no particular order, and Iā€™ve no idea whether they offer DCPC or not)

Hi dazask, thatā€™s no problem mate, cos ADR is what I do.

As a rough guide, Iā€™d say youā€™re doing OK if you can get Core, Packs, Tanks, seven UN Classes and 21 hours DCPC for less than Ā£600.

:bulb: Please donā€™t forget that the tanker module counts as separate and is entirely optional.

Hey diesel dave no it was in walsall with S.T.T.

dieseldave:
There will usually be some questions on fire and first-aid, but they would normally come as part of the core module exam.

Here is one tick in a mark box for you, any question you are asked in relation to amount of time something should be done for i.e wash under cold water for burns etc it is minimum of 15 minutes, that covers everything, so any minimum time for any first aid thing is 15minutes (if Iā€™m wrong DD will stop point the gun at ROG and fire at will towards me!!)

Also re the fire fighting thing, youā€™re not there to be a hero, if you find yourself in a situation, you should do all you can to get the situation under control and prevent any danger to yourself, others around you, the environment, if at all possible, until the professionals get there then tell them what youā€™ve been doing then let them do their thing. Then make the well boss call as the last thing. But you will be told all that on your course.

Thank you garnerlives for that post mate.Absolute priceless info off everybody.cheers.

Hi all just booked my adr course for next month so looking forward to that.im going with tyne and wear lgv which are based just off the felling bypast in Gateshead.

Just out of interest how much is it all together??

Hi Garnerlives Im taking the core,packages,7 classes and the tanks with the 21 hours towards dcpc for Ā£464.
Also all refreshments included and all exam fees and vat all included in the price.I DOUBLE CHECKED MATE.

Thatā€™s a bloody good price with tanks included too

Yeah im not complaining about the price like mate.Starting course 19th April.

Looks like DD came up trumps for you - I assume you phoned a few of those providers DD listed to get the best price

Hi Rog yeah Dieseldave did come up trumps mate.i rang about 6 of the training providers dd gave me and compared the prices.
I rang afew down in yorkshire but obviously had travelling fees and hotel on top of course which was pretty expensive anyway.so i opted for a company abit closer to home, double checked all the questions i needed to ask about prices, exam fees, vat and the 21 hours of dcpc etc etc.
I start the course on the 19th April so really looking forward to it. Cheers to you Rog and Dieseldave for giving me all the info. :grimacing:

Thatā€™s a very good price indeed mate and Iā€™m glad that you were able to get a course fixed-up locally, but without paying silly money.

Good luck on your course, and please donā€™t forget that Iā€™ll be here if you get stuck.

Thank you Dieseldave for giving me the training providers i rang about 6 of them up for prices even a couple down in yorkshire but obviously petrol and hotels came into the price to mate.so i decided on tyne and wear lgv based in felling, which is only about 15 mins drive away.
i made sure i asked the prices.vat, exam fees etc etc and even got the lady to double check the price out.lol :grimacing:
Start my course the 19th April and i must admit im looking forward to it.
I can not praise you enough mate for giving me all the info on these courses and what to ask for.
I will keep everybody posted on how i get on with the course.once again cheers Dieseldave.

Hi all started my Adr course today and i must admit it was really good, albeit only 3 people including me where on the course. :unamused:
I took all the info down in notes and asked questions i wasnt sure of.
Got shown the nurse picture in 1969 i think it was, where there is nothing left of her. :open_mouth:

Just another thing because there was only 3 of us on this course the instructor said we could get an early finish on a few days, but what about my dcpc hours will i still get credited with them.forgot to ask the instructor

cheers,any help would be great.

Hi dazask, It looks like youā€™re doing OK mate.

Iā€™m not sure why you had to write so many notesā€¦ the provider must give you a course handout for exactly that purpose.

As for an early dartā€¦ there used to be a provision in the rules to allow a shortening of the second day of the course, but that was a couple of years ago. An ADR teaching day is 6.25hrs unless theyā€™ve applied for an extension on one day of the course.

If your instructor lets you go early, and the verifier drops in, thenā€¦ :open_mouth:

It sounds to me that theyā€™ll sign you off on your DCPC for seven hours per day, so go for it mate.

Itā€™s all very well an instructor letting the guys go early, but any shortcuts will become evident when you take your exams. :grimacing:

hi Dieseldave yeah im learning loads of info mate.
We all got given handouts but i wanted to make notes so the info was going through my thick skull! :grimacing:
Im writing notes, asking questions, listening to everything so hopefully ill remember it all for the exams.

Cheers.

I will be taking the 5 day ADR course sometime in the Autumn and phoned up a local provider today ā€œTransport Training Servicesā€ at Nutts Corner Crumlin (Who I took my CPC with in 2004).

After reading the excellent info on this thread I was dismayed to be told by an instructor on the phone that their 5 day ADR course would only count towards 7 hours on my Dcpc and the price quoted was Ā£772.81 :exclamation: :open_mouth: (This included everything, exam fees, lunchs, coffee breaks,VAT etc)

Why is this different to your courses on the mainland and DD can you give me the details of some other ADR providers here in NI please?

Big Truck:
told by an instructor on the phone that their 5 day ADR course would only count towards 7 hours on my Dcpc

He is confused - 21 for the full initial course and 7 for a refresher
