ADR C job Nr Hinckley Leics - NEWBIES MOST WELCOME

robina:
i have applied, its an hours drive each day from me to and from work, but worth a go

Hi robina, Good luck, and please let us know how it goes.

dinosteveus1:
I’d love to do this job.
Two things stopping me, the distance and lack of funds to pay for an ADR Certificate. I spent all our dosh on the C&E.
I’d be happy to gain experience with Tankers and get £10 P/H. Seems fab to me.

Hi dinosteveus, It might be an idea to approach the non-haz foodstuffs industry, because you don’t need ADR for driving tankers on that type of work. :grimacing:

You can get tanker experience, then do your ADR qualification at a later date, and move over to the dangerous goods industry at a time of your choosing.

8wheels:
If you filled it with helium could you drive it on a 7.5t licence?

Hi 8wheels, 'fraid not mate, but it’s a cracking thought.

:open_mouth: Hydrogen is surprising in that an artic can only carry just over 300kgs of it. :open_mouth: :grimacing:
The rest of the 44t is taken up by the high unladen weight of the vehicle.

Thanks for your in depth answers Dieseldave. Not just to me but everyones. Im glad Ive found this site. Its good to know there is good advice available. Cheers.

Hi steamer, that’s a nice comment, thanks for that mate. :grimacing:

 We can credit ROG for starting this one, and I’m glad so much clarity for everybody has emerged from it.

ive not long had my adr ,but the company i am with now paid for my adr , but i am with an agreement with them that i stay with them for a year , it is the best move i have made , its only a family firm but the vehicles are well maintained and easily approachable etc etc .
i think their might be other companies out their , that might be willing to pay for yours.
i think watsons pay , but this is white fuel based work not gas .

Hi funkyfella, Never mind it’s “only” a family firm, cos some of the best firms I’ve worked for were family run/owned.
It’s also fair enough that you have this type of agreement with them, due to the costs involved for the training.
It simply means that if you decide to leave (and it is YOUR choice) then the training fee or part of it can be deducted from your final pay.
Under employment law, this type of agreement is perfectly OK, provided that you’ve signed a document in advance to indicate that you agreed to it.

There are mate, but when they say that it most probably means that they’re willing to pay for refresher training if your ADR certificate runs out whilst you’re working for them.
There’s a world of difference between that and the firm paying for an initial ADR certificate for a new starter on the firm. That’s the reason for agreements such as the one you’ve entered into with your employer.
Sounds like you’re on for a decent employer mate.

However, none of this is absolutely set in stone. :grimacing:

Agreed and well said

here here, great info dave, id hope to get on one of your course’s if i do adr.

I got my Adr back in May. Did all modules barr explosives and radioactives. Plus the tanker module. Cost was £419 totally inclusive course ran from monday to friday. It was with mdm training in Darlaston and i would recommend them as the course was very thorough.

I know this is a complex question, but what do they teach you on the ADR courses. Is there anywhere I can have a look to see exactly what they show you and examine you on?

they dont teach you how to do the job , they teach you how to be safe and know the aspects and the dangers off each class , plus what you can carry with what . im sure diesel dave will be along shortly to answer your question more in depth .

yeh DD they are good firm , yeh we did sign an agreement but each month i am with them the cost off the fee goes down if i do wish to leave .i went from 3yrs general straight onto tankers, yeh my hours are a bit ■■■ but i have opened more doors and more money for me and my family .and i enjoy it , some days only 1 job but others days 2 straight forward load unload and home . but got harvest and winter season so been doing 2 loads a day.this pass week all the upto feb time , but each 2nd load i do get bonus aswell.

i applied to them, they were taking new drivers without an adr, but they have filled there adr course, so i think they just want drivers that have an adr now.

That reminds me of the old Hydrogen Supplies lads from Manchester, they were always on a flier when they were going home :stuck_out_tongue:

PS. Got your mail, will reply shortly. Thanks Dave.

Hi steamer, Yes mate that a tricky question, but I’m sure it’s also of wider interest than just leaving the answer in this topic.

IMHO, funkyfella has got a good take on what’s what with the course.

I’ve answered your question HERE in the H&S forum in an attempt to avoid hijacking ROG’s original topic. :grimacing:

I hope you don’t mind.
