I have been tasked or asked to help find my friends sisters son.
He was born in 1981 so I believe there should be a complete record somewhere. Where do I start my search?
She gave him up for adoption within a couple of weeks of his birth. I am meeting her soon to get the finer details, but apart from the Mormon sites or paying sites like Friends Reunited I don’t know where to start. I have done a family tree search on my own family and have gone as far as I can without spending vast fortunes on these genealogy sites.
Can anyone suggest a good place to start my search?
You’ve probably tried this, but in case you haven’t
direct.gov.uk/en/Governmentc … /DG_175603
I think your friends sisters son would have to register as well to say that he was willing to be contacted.

Thanks, we did look at that, but wondered if there were some adoption registers we could search ourselves. My only input is that I know my way round the internet and can string a letter together.
Although it was 1981 she was forced to give up this child by family pressure, a god-fearing grandma and auntie. I think it is almost barbaric in these days. Unfortunately her mother was quite ill at the time and she was constantly overruled.
Now she has 2 lovely daughters and a grand daughter who want to meet their big brother who will be 30 in November.
This might be helpful. I’ve not heard of any adoption registers that you can access yourself.
patient.co.uk/support/Salvat … ervice.htm
though there is a cost involved with that as well.

Thanks Albion. I think the Sally Army is the ideal starting point. I have sent the links to my friend. It would be amazing to find Russell for them, probably not called Russell now though.
Truck Net wins again.
Depends where he was born as if it went through correct channels then there will be a " trace " ie social services would poss have some details but you would have to give them yours & they would poss contact him on your behalf then it will be up to him to make that choice to get in contact
BTW friends reunited dont charge

Thanks Animal.
I have just printed the information off and passed it on, there isn’t any problem with giving the information.
Apparently these medieval relatives “organised” the adoption through their church after trying to force my friends sister to have an abortion. I mentioned her Mum was ill, well now, she is trying desperately to put things right.
