Does anyone know if ramps added to the rear of a trailer count towards overall length? Reading the government website I don’t think they do, as it states “any tailboard which is let down while the vehicle is stationary in order to facilitate its loading or unloading;” essentially doesn’t count.

I can’t find anything in the construction and use regulations that specifically mentions loading/unloading ramps but assuming that they don’t extend the length of the vehicle when it’s being driven I would say it’s safe to say that they do not count towards the overall permitted length of the vehicle.
I think the problem is they will extend the external length of the vehicle as they’ll be mounted outside of the rear doors (step frame curtain sider). Just not sure if that counts or not as they don’t increase the load carrying space. I’ll keep looking.
