Noticed something peculiar to Volvos and renaults yesterday didnt get chance to spot on other motors - Adblue tank is between the fuel tank and the exhaust … maybe this to help keep it warm ■■?
Zetorpilot:
To update my post above:
- There is a system for heating the tank. On my FH13 yesterday, I noticed several wires going to the tank, maybe it is fitted with an immersion heater? In any case when I got to the docks, I noticed that the outside of the tank was slightly warm to the touch (the ambient temperature was -16C
Yes there is a heated tank on volvo fm’s,were side loaded by moffits on the farms and the coolant from the engine run’s around the outer of the adblue tank and we were warned if the outer skin of the adblue tank is damaged the coolant will drain out of the engine !!
You also need to be careful how you fill your tank, our guys used to fill a water can then pour it into the tank, since we did not have the proper filler gun with pump.
If you are using it from a 1000ltr IBC it should also have a pump with gun, when adblue is subject to the air it ‘goes off’ and turns to water, the filling system is a air tight system.
Our DAF’s had a lot of crystalising in the lines, until a DAF fitter visited our yard one day and spotted someone filling the adblue tank with the can, he ‘enlightened’ our management to the problem, after the pump was sourced the problem seemed to disappear.

Ah, so that’s how they do it! Simpler than an immersion heater I suppose. Good to know…

he was talking a load of [zb]. when air gets to it. the water will evaporate. very slowly in this climate. but it would end up with a stronger urea solution. if you do get too much crystalising, then you simply water it down.
but hey, that’s fitters for you. they just talk [zb] when they don’t know the real answer, so that will be about 95% of the time.
