ADBlue do i need to?

Having the first of our motors with an adblue tank delivered today i am unsure what i need to do about it.

Its a Renault Premium, 08 reg, with half a tank of diesel and the same in adblue, with no adblue in the yard what happens if i run out of it ?

I asked the TM on the phone this and he was unsure, its new for both of us to be honest. My concern is running it without it and bashing the engine to bits. And can we get it without buying 1000 litres or so ?

So , do we need it and why ? (honest question)

u do need it as the engine will run at granny speed without. it sprays on the exhaust fumes to reduce emissions, u can ■■■■ in the tank in u r ruunning low

You can read this thread and make your own mind up… :stuck_out_tongue:

You do need it, you don’t need to get it in large quantities though. Many fuel places have it onpump and your diesel card (if you have one) should be able to be used for it. Whatr do you do for fuel, yard or a card?

You need adblue because, if you don’t:

The engine won’t run properly or efficiently. It goes into low-power mode when it runs out.
The warranty could be compromised.
Vosa wouldn’t like it.(especially if you run inside the LEZ)

AdBlue is injected into the exhaust manifold to reduce the emissions. It doesn’t enter the engine.
If you do a phone-around, you’ll find outlets for the stuff. You don’t have to buy
in bulk, but it’s a bit cheaper if you do.
A full tank of AdBlue lasts about 600/800 ltrs of fuel on our Midlum.

It costs 50/60p per ltr.

Tis Yard now Mike, i am the first with digi Tacho and adblue .

But from January all our units will be replaced so i guess i am the guinea pig

If you want it in your yard Gerry you can get it in ‘cubeys’ (cubies?). You need a pump then , thats what we have. Not sure of cost or how many litres they hold maybe someone else tell us? Our Merc tanks hold 40 litres of Adblue and like 206doorman says, they will just about last a week when full, obviously depending on mileage etc…They seem to drink the stuff when heavily loaded, but thats only my idea not sure if anyone else says the same.

Thanks you guys  just wanted to be armed with the i told you so before it run out , i know what my lot are like

I will leave it in there hands, but with my input before i drive it on Monday.

On saying that i dont think i need it straight away, so should give them a few days to at least sort some out

There are enough outlets now selling the AD BLUE
and also try useing the search button for the site it
will give you more than enough posts , look on useful
links it should be there as well, as some one said getting caught
without AD BLUE in the tank CAN /MAY BE COSTLY AS REGARDS A FINE
In germany the maut goes down when you have a euro 4-5 motor
so they would proberly give a fine out as you would be regaded as a fraudster.

Hi pete i did do a serch but i was looking for a specific answer as to what happens if i had no adblue in the tank .

I guess i got a bit confused with all the posts

THIS THREAD will give you a few ideas as to where to get AdBlue from until your office sort the job.

We have ours in a 1000 litre IBC from HERE, delivered to us.

Hope it helps.

Thank you Kate
All info and Places to purchase Adblue will be printed and left on the Tm’s desk Monday morning, my biggest grip is if i need to buy it i have to leave it a month to get MY cash back , normally i don’t mind but i don’t want it to turn into the norm, after all its there wagon.

I have been suckered into paying for diesel when we had the pump fitted at the yard but they forgot to tell us our fuel cards were cancelled , que me asking the bloke at the pump what to do next, a call or two later i had to pay for 300 litres of diesel on my CC, just so happens i had it with me that day, i got the cash back ok but what if i never had it ? dont want to be in that position again.

I know it wont be that much with Adblue but i will be dammed if i need to bail them out for something so simple this time

Paying to run a company vehicle■■?

I don’t think so.

If a company hasn’t got the intelligence to sort out how it gets diesel to run it’s own trucks, then I’m sure as hell not going to pay for it.They can pay me to sit around as far as I’m concerned. And if it happened while on the road,I’ll stay put, until payment is sorted.

And I concur with Kate about 1000 litre tanks of Adblue.A lot of places I’ve been to through the agency, have them, and the electric pumps,in their yards, and one place I’m currently at,even have their’s sited above a very large drip tray,in case of leaks.

Ken.

Quinny your so correct and i wont be put it that position again, incidentally i was at the time opposite RAF Cosford at the BP garage, nothing to do with you and your avatar was it

Sadly not old boy.

Ken.

You can get it in 10litre poly cans to carry with you for emergencies, next size is 210 litre drums, usually with a hand pump, then 1000 litre IBC, and finally in bulk tank of between 5000 and 25000 litres, Air1 will supply you with a bulk tank if you have at least 20 vehicles and sign up for three years with them. Since AdBlu is so corrosive these bulk tanks are very expensive when compared to a fuel tank.

There are only two suppliers of AdBlu, Air1 and GreenChem, but they will only deal directly with fleets of over about 20, so if you are running less than this you will have to buy it through a dealer. It would be a good bet that your Renault dealer and you usual fuel supplier both stock it. As with most things, the larger quantities you buy the cheaper it gets.

A couple more ideas for you GerryT.

Hopwood Park, M42 J2 sell it in 10 litre cans.

Also for suppliers, take a look - HERE -

I remember when we had our first motor on AdBlue, our TM was like…Errmmm, now what.
As usual it got left to the driver to sort out, which turned out to be me, :unamused: as the trucks regular driver was in hospital.

be careful with it tho, from what i’m told its pretty nasty stuff, make sure u wear gloves

geezer:

That’s a bit over the top. It’s quite safe to handle, you don’t need gloves.
It is corrosive to certain materials, but not to human skin.

If you’re a bit paranoid, then I suggest a full-body white suit, breathing apparatus,face-mask,hard hat and goggles i.e. the same stuff you wear when
topping up your diesel tank.
