HI KICKSTART YOU MUST OF LIVED IN WORLE SAME TIME AS MY SELF I BET YOU REMMBER SOME OF THE LORRIES SUTH AS BARTLETTS CATTLE LORRIES OSBORNES MILK LORRIES L B GEORGE & SON TIPPERS JOHN HUISH DODGE TIPPERS

Hi you lads have brought back a lot of memories for me ,i knew alot of Forsey drivers as i lived in St georges in weston & worked for Harding Bros in Avonmouth for many years,Paul thomson,Don francis Gwyn jones,Colin counsel,Ron chapman Buck harding,Jeff lewis( 'known as lew)Bill stradling i worked with on hardings,Bill loud & many more i cant remember the names as the little gray cells are not what they were,(many who know me would say they were never very good) but hey who cares now :unamused: You all take care thnks for the memories,Melv.

Hi Neil B,
yes I remember all of those names from the 50’s.
Bartlett’s used to park in the yard behind Dennis’s butchers in the High St, opposite the Maltings.
Osbournes were in Ebdon Road just before Madam lane.
Huish’s and George’s used to have Kew Dodge tippers like in the film “Hell Drivers” (but nowhere near as fast!).
Also, I remember Wick’s furniture removers from Moor Lane, next to Sage & Downs concrete block yard.
Then there was the Ready Mixed people like Eddie Coleman and Reuben Hurst.
I am sure there were more, but like Papa Numpty, the grey matter isn’t what it used to be without prompting.
I lived in Station Road from 1952 until 1963 and remember going to Forsey’s yard in Ricketts Lane to get maggots for fishing. You only had to kick a couple of sheep carcases and you got as many as you wanted.
I still live in Worle now, but nearer Wick St Lawrence than what was called Worle then!
happy memories.
Les

hi there to all you old timers, can any of you on this site remember Jim Sqibb in southamton going into reefer work for the first time,he had a fridge box made by your company, the first and only one.Well i was the driver of that reefer back in 1971/73 and i was pulling for MAT FRIGO out of southern ireland in those days,i used to remember one driver on your firm, name you all gave him was bunny he was doing a lot of grapes from greco back to the uk,there was another driver i used to meet quite a lot on the continent and SEAGULL FERRIES but can remember his name, was blind in one eye, been with forsy;s for some time, if the old grey matter serves me well i think he was hi jacked in sicily with a load of skins on, he was dumped up in the mountians in a small farm cottage but managed to break out through the roof, when i finished working out of ireland i did some work for forsys but also was working for cadwalliders, cavewood, did a lot of hanging lambs out of llyod maunders to rungis, and hanging beef from north devon meat to,le vilet, pottier, rome meat market.my name is bev wyatt and i had an 86 volvo to start with then a f88, on SEAGULL FERRIES I WAS KNOWN AS MR BACARDI,THOSE WERE THE DAYS. TAKE CARE ALL YOU LADS :sunglasses: :unamused:

Hi bev the guy you are talking about is Ron Chapman you are right he was hi jacked doing th american forces hanging beef job, he was looking for the base at sigonela in sicily when he asked the wrong people for directions,i have done the same run when i worked for J A Bunn. Fair play to ron the very next trip he did was the same Napoli Brindisi Sigonela and Ispeca you all take care Melv.

:unamused: hi there melv, thanks for reverting back to me, is ron still with use, if yes please send my best regards to him, talking about hi jacking mate i had a bad one in bredisi myself,i had loaded out of FRANS BUTALER up in boston lincolnshire, only had 5tons of hanging beef on,but was being payed for a full load, loaded for a yanky base in greco, cant remember the name of the base though,(its the old grey matter mate, i was waiting for the ferry to cross over when they hit me, and to cut a long story short i landed up in brendisi hospital for thirty days, had all my teeth smashed out with the metal bar what i used to hit the meat hooks back with, then with the same bar they broke my nose and one of my ribs, then a knife in my back, was luky the police found me when they did mate, never went back to brendisi after that, but did the continent for 38 year in all, they were to good days it was like one big family then mate,ok melv once again thanks for everything, take care.

great to see the thread on A D Forsey and Ron I spent many a good time with Ron and other Forsey drivers
together with Taunton meat haulage, Crewkerne Refriderated Transport, Jim squib and many more shipping
out of Southampton in the mid 60s to early 70s, a clue to who I am is the vehicle I drove a green and white
8 wheel leyland octopus fridge with sleeper cab, hauling hanging meat throughout France and Switzerland.

Nigel :

There was another firm from Surrey who used to run an 8 wheeler AEC with a fridge box i think they were from Banfield or somewhere like that? not really sure

Hi again a few more names that might ring a few bells , Ken george ,Jeff george Ivan(leggs) Ray (preacher) webb the guy that left to become the T M of a firm near Southampton (SOMTHING FOODS?) Phill cousins, Mick baker who i worked with for many years on Hardings ,cant think of any more at the moment, all good memories and as you said Bev, the best years  saddly all gone now ,as my son said on the Hardings thread memories are best treasured. Take Care  Melv.

hi there nigel,i remember all the companys you have mentioned on your posting, used to see them in llyod maunders at cullumpton and north devon meat, were i used to load out of as well mate, i also can remember chard meat and martock slaughter house where i used to load hanging meat for all over europe, hatherliegh slaughter house was another were i used to load from,re crewkern transport, didnt there used to be a guy called corron, working there passed away at quite an early age, think he was some relative of one of the bosses, but dont quote me on that mate, its the old grey matter, hope this brings back a few memories. :unamused:

Hi bev some of the names you have come up with fill me with horror eg hatherleigh brings back horrendous trips to germany i can honestly say that now in my old age i look back on my 26 years of international fridge work with most fond memories , but would not want to do it now,we definetly had the best years    You all take care Melv.

You might like to know that Ivan Cheneler, a stalwart of A D Forsey Transport and Taunton Meat Haulage from the early days, died in January. A short piece in the Bristol Evening Post described the funeral which his daughter Delicia arranged as a fitting tribute to her father’s dedication to the Road Transport Industry. His last employers, Graham Sweeting Haulage of Weston, decked out a lorry, which had been cleaned and polished to perfection with red carpet and flowers to transport his coffin to the crematorium. The piece was kindly sent to me by Donald Davies, one time Transport Manager at Weston after Paul Thompson’s departure, who still lives in the Bristol area.

I had been drafted into Sales and Marketing for Hillsdown Distribution Limited in the late 80’s, following its purchase of abattoirs and related transport activities, and my last contact with Ivan, Maurice, Gwyn, Ron, et al, was in the tired AD Forsey Portakabins sandwiched between WSM Motors, the railway, and the meat plant.

What a nice looking old girl the Leyland is, and a fair old length as well would think it wasn’t the best cab for a sleeper, with the big engine hump in there.

Heres a few from my collection of AD Forsey

I was sorry to hear about Ivan Chelinor i knew him for many years ,he was certanly a one off ,he was the man for any problems with tapes or vidios.Very droll & funny, one of his sayings was i dont drink ,dont smoke & make all my own frocks. The last time i spoke to him he was working for Sweetings of Sandford '(there are a lot of Sweetings around Weston s mare) may he rest in peace.
