Accident, Sheffield. Appeal for witnesses

Officers are re-appealing for witnesses to a collision in Sheffield on Tuesday 21st June 2005 which left a police motorcyclist seriously hurt.
PC Mark Butler suffered serious leg and pelvic injuries when the police bike he was riding was in collision with an articulated lorry at the roundabout junction of Meadowhall Way and Sheffield Road just before 11.40am on Tuesday 21st June 2005.
PC Butler was taken by ambulance to the Northern General Hospital, where his condition is today (June 22) described as ‘critical, but stable’.
Forty-one-year-old PC Butler lives in the Barnsley area and is a father of two boys. He has been a South Yorkshire Police officer for more than 20 years. He has worked in the Road Policing Group for the last 15 years and is based at the Force’s operations complex, near to Sheffield airport.
Head of the Road Policing Group, Ch Insp Liz Watson, today spoke of the devastating effect the collision has had on PC Butler’s family, girlfriend and colleagues.
“Mark has played an important role in the motorcycle wing for a long time and is a well liked and respected colleague,” she said. “Calls of concern are coming in from across all areas of the force. Everyone is shocked by what has happened and we are all hoping and praying that Mark’s condition improves soon. We are supporting his family and girlfriend, who remain at his bedside.”
An investigation into the cause of the collision is underway and we are appealing for witnesses. If anyone was in the vicinity of Meadowhall Way and Sheffield Road on Tuesday 21st June 2005 at lunchtime and saw the police motorcyclist or the DAF lorry, which had a bright yellow cab and a cream, curtain-sided trailer, we would urge them to contact the accident witness helpline.

The text suggests either a ‘Fail to Stop’ or the driver was unaware of the incident.

Any suggestions gratefully received, or P.M. me personally, in confidence.

Strange thing is there isn’t a junction between Meadowhall road and Sheffield road. I am assuming they mean Vulcan road and Sheffield road which is a very busy place some body must have seen it. Shall have a look at the Sheffield Star site see if there is more info.

Apparently the driver was arrested then released pending investigation. The accident happened on the roundabout on Sheffield road, which is the main entrance to the Meadowhall shopping mall. Both vehicles where travelling towards the M1.

so is that the roundabout with the lights on before you climb the hill to the motorway roundabout southern end of the viaduct?
