Isn’t the driver supposed to have fitted extended side mirrors as the view behind is obscured with normal side mirrors?
As far as I’m aware extended mirrors are not a legal requirement, but if the load hangs over the side by more than 305mm or is over 2.9 metres wide maker boards are required and the police should be given 2 days notice of the load movement.
Thanks tachograph.
When I did that job back in the 70’s we didn’t need extended mirrors-we ran TK’s and D series and could see under the mobile homes! We didn’t have 600hoss twin bunk high roof sleepers, more flashing lights than Blackpool, escort drivers that think they are above the law, marker boards, movement orders etc. We just got on with it and got it done-the world’s gone soft!
Cheers Beaunydel.
That’s a 3 metre wide static caravan. No movement order or marker boards required.
I bet the copper was an ■■■■■■■■ who pointed at the gutters and said that it takes it over 3m. A couple of minutes with a screwdriver or a bar sorts that out.
Yep looks like a 3m wide caravan, but as you say, when you add the downpipes etc it becomes a LOAD that’s more than 3.05m.
Having spent the time and effort to get the truck marked up, no doubt they should have known how to measure the total load width not just the bits they like, and chose not to get the permit.
Over 2.9m you need movement order and marker boards. They’ve got a bit ■■■■ last few years. If the driver had just put marker boards on and made it look right they probably wouldn’t have bothered stopping him to check for the movement order.
I had my collar felt for not adhering to the abnormal load embargo times round Manchester a couple of years ago. Fined the company and made me sit there until the correct time. About 30 mins I sat there. We’re just cash cows.
The government website says 3 metres.
Its how it’s worded. Anything over 2.9m. Meaning 3m would need a movement order. 2.9m wouldn’t.
Just for curiosity purposes, did you know it should have a permit and went anyway, or what?
It had a movement order but there’s an abnormal load embargo during peak hours along the M62.
Been in place years but GMP started enforcing it more recently. Last few years.
I was a little over width and a little unlucky
Company paid it.
. Thanks. So a little over is code for wrong permit declaration, outside hours is contrary to permit.
