Abnormal loads parking area

Moving on from the “wearing hi vis jacket when you don’t need to” thread here’s another pet hate of mine, In Gloucester services and these 3 rolled in within 10 minutes of each other and parked there but plenty of room in the “normal loads area” so where’s that abnormal load to when you need it to pull in just to see where he parks.

Suppose it could park along side them and block them in for a few hours, I think it’s down to the fact that there are to many drivers out there who struggle to reverse, so go for the easy inconveniencing option.

I’m just waiting for the day when a driver of an abnormal load comes in to park after having a bad day just to see what happens for a laugh.

There’s no excuse at Gloucester, if someone can’t reverse an artic into the spaces there they need to give up their licence.

That Tesco van driver is a complete helmet, quid says he had a hi vis and earpiece in, idle jakey.

A.

I was at Warwick N/B recently and an abnormal load was blocking the services and banging on the doors of the flip flop to move so he could get in. Although it was at the weekend where it turns into a Warbereres yard!!

Was at those services around a year ago,2 wide loads pullled in and booked the wagons in that had parked like those above and both drivers and the ■■■■■■ vehicle went inside they were gone a while in the meantime one of those blocked in came back and proceeded to have a meltdown because he couldn’t get out…serves him right,I’d like to think those driving the wide loads took an extra long break and were sat in the services laughing at him!!
As far as truckers friendly spaces go,Glos services are amongst the best and easiest to reverse into, absolutely no excuse not to.

Same in the Southbound side.

Indicative of the gradual erosion of common courtesy and manners that we witness every day. Increasing numbers of people do not give a thought to the consequences of their actions and then act all surprised when someone reciprocates the same way to them!

The type of person who can’t be bothered to move one finger to activate their indicators but still expect me to bother to stop a 44 tonne truck just in case they’re actually turning right at the roundabout.

Sod 'em all, I’m off to live in a cabin in the wilds where I’ll fashion flint tools and live off the land.

you drove all the way round to the other side? Fellor you got to much time on your hands

We do a fair few wide loads into London.

Pulled in to Toddington a few weeks back, truck already parked at front of wide load bay. Truck pulled in behind him as I come up slip road and straight into the wide load bay.

I parked behind him and went into the services. When I came out he was having a right strop.

Oh well, did I feel bad? No!
Did he end up mounting the kerb in frustration to get out? Yes!

That’s a popular spot as it’s near the amenities and obviously too far for some folks to walk especially when the sun is shining!!

If I’m stopping to use the loo, or just grab a coffee and the truck park is busy, I’ll use the ab load bay as it leaves a space for someone who needs a break, as there’s a fair chance I’d have passed an abnormal on route, so I’m confident that nothing will be there in the next 10-15 mins. But if I need a break it’s the truck park every time

went in there 1 night (southbound side, had already tried strensham & Gloucester services but they was full) when i had a 11 foot wide 55 foot long concrete slab on board and the wide load was full of curtainsiders, go find duty manager who knocked the 3 drivers out of bed asking them too vacate the abnormal bay and park in the coach bays round the side of the building which they refused too do, manager got the police out who knocked them out of bed again and moved them round to the coach bays, amazingly they didnt refuse then but did get there printouts signed for the 1000 yard move round the corner

Trouble is not all of us wide load boys trundle along at 40. On the motorway I sit at 56 so the chances are you probably wouldn’t have passed me. Use the regular parking and leave the abnormal bays for the abnormal loads!
Last week I pulled in Hartshead Moor services and found the abnormal bays blocked by flip flop so I had to squeeze into the regular slots. luckily it wasnt full so there was a bit of room to spare.

The ones at Glouster are shameful. The place is normally pretty quiet on a night time, can’t understand why. Its dead quiet and its pretty cheap as far as services go for parking.

The services are nice but sometimes feel they’re a bit too nice, don’t get me wrong, I don’t mind paying for decent food but prefer a services with an M&S to Gloucester or its twin Tebay.

TBH to a certain extent I’d rather they parked there if the alternative is they stove in the front corner of my cab.
