Learn to speak French and Spanish fluently and there are many openings as a Convoi Exceptionnel
pilot car driver. Of course you have to know the rules and regs as well, cos it could become quite expensive as you move a bridge in the centre of Paris. or scrape a passenger module on the Zelzate Tunnel

A bloke with an LGV C+ E doesn’t necessarily make a good lorry driver, neither does owning a van with flashing lights make it a pilot car
I can’t imagine that you would see a job of this nature advertised, ever.I would have thought that an ■■■■■■ driver must have some LGV experience to at least understand the truck drivers perspective and anticipate the hazards as they happen. These positions are surely filled from within.

The CoP is not a legal requirement HOWEVER any employer who had an incident and was found to be in breach would be taking a big BIG (and unnecessary) risk.
The recession has affected the Abload sector as I am sure it has all of the transport industry, as a result hauliers are protecting their own drivers jobs by putting them in their own ■■■■■■ vehicles and freelance escorters are also suffering as a result.
Deathstar is right — it’s highly unusual to see this kind of job advertised — it usually goes to an ex-driver/semi-retired etc of a haulage company or self-employed (freelancer).
If you are really keen and have the time/inclination — try to make contact with a local freelancer and see if they will take you out on a job as an observer. I wish you well - you sound like you might be a realistic kind’a guy so I hope you will take the info/suggestions constructively.

Thats is the best Quote ive read in a long time and very true …
I ■■■■■■ trucks like road pilot , I know Truck drivers that i ■■■■■■ dont like Driving ■■■■■■ Vehicles and escorting other drivers … Now this is a job that you could end up in jail at the end of the day thru no fault of your own , this job has to be done illegaly , you cant do it legaly , 100% honestly i can say you cant do it legaly altho the powers that be think you can ,Really you cant, if you were a driver and the police escorting you stopped the traffic ,so you could example go wrong side of traffic light or a traffic island then that was legal , now the police have given up the escorting, to the private escorts the same load going down the same road comes to the same traffic lights or island and has to go wrong side , as before then it becomes an ilegal the ■■■■■■ hasnt the powers to stop the traffic and you as the truck driver cant controvene a traffic act or traffic sign without the police so what do you do , (A) stop call police wait for them to arrive and hold all the traffic behind you , Erm dont think they are going to very happy getting held up by you , or (B) take your chance stopping traffic and carrying on with the journey hoping nobody has sussed out yo have broken the law , But if the [zb] hits the Fan are you going to say it was your decision to wrong side the obstruction
