WOW!! TOTAL RECALL!!
I’m impressed with that, I worked there for 5 years and had a job to remember that many names.Cliffes mate name was Billy Clayton, and it was Derek rather than Tony Rustage, BUT WELL REMEMBERED!!
Colin Oldfield came from Macclesfield, he used to call himself ‘A medium sized mountain man from the happy valley’. Pete
Tony Rustage lived in Mobberley and he used to drive the foden with the jennings sleeper, it had a high diff and could keep up with an F88 til it got to a hill. It was about 1975/6
Reminder to all party this Saturday night
I recognise some of the names mentioned on here (Pops were a bit before my time but I remember their motors from being a young lad) These guys I’ve worked with…Jimmy Warburton (if its the same one and a real funny guy) lived at Houghton Green near to the Colliers I think, and I remember him driving for Ferrymasters at Risley back in the 80’s. I think he left to set up his own small transport firm with his son (poss Jimmy junior who, unlike his dad was a tall bloke) Harry Searle worked at Beck and Pollitzer at Howley but I remember his driving spell at BOC Baker (someone gave him the nickname Harry the Murderer and I never asked why but I know he had a few bumps which I think eventually cost him his job) Did Joe Hinds work for Pops? I know for years he drove for Westerns and later the Lol Rattigan spin off Stretton, and he lived at Lymm. Another chap I was an apprentice for at Ferrymasters was Peter Lythgoe, a nice guy who I think came from the north east (he could have been a fitter or driver there) I’m racking my brains for some names - hard work when I didn’t work there myself (ate in the cafe a few times though, sadly)
