A68

have to go from newcastle to edinboro, sometime tue,but its been years since that far north,so is the road good or bad for artics,or better to use A1.

also how much is the forth bridge?

thanks mark

Go A1. We’re mileage paid and we do, it’s quicker by a looooooooong way.

Forth Road Bridge is £2 northbound, free southbound, unless it’s gone up since 1/1 (not been over it yet this year).

from what i can work out its £2

you can have a look here

many thanks lucy,at least some talk sense on here.

just hoping it DONT snow.

If you go A1 watch them speed camraes, i was up that way a few times in the last couple of weeks in a 7.5 tonner and got flashed doing 50mph on single carriageway.

Good point, brit_mark

As far as I can remember at this time on a Friday night…there’s one on the first single carriageway stretch north of Morpeth, near where the school warning sign is. IIRC it’s signed…There’s one this side of Purdy’s Lodge and one at Purdy’s Lodge, both painted grey but with barsteward great flashing signs just before you get to them, so you’d have to be blind not to realise and brake - plus the one actually by PL is on the s’bound side and doesn’t cover the n’bound side…the next one is by the garage where the Lindisfarne turning is, again signed for the side of the road it covers, which is the southbound side…then there’s one on the Berwick bypass, set to 50…one on the dual coming away from Berwick…then you’re into Scotland.

On the Scottish side you’ve got a camera at the top of the hill by the little yellow house on the single track section, so drop down to 40…then another just past Eyemouth…another a little further one, and a third as you go along the valley by the Cedar Cafe. They’re all painted a nice visible red and yellow stripe effect on the Scottish side, though, so if I’ve missed any you should be able to spot them. Rumour has it that they’re all set to the car limit, but I know from having seen them that they have a couple of height sensors that side of the border which they move around the various cameras, so best play it safe.

Once you’re on the last dual carriageway bit up to the City Bypass - you’ll know where I mean, it’s the new bit with the daft Emergency Laybys and motorway-style rules signs as you get it - there are loads of the stripy sods, but I’ve never heard of anyone getting flashed in an HGV by one… :stuck_out_tongue:

I may have missed the odd one, maybe someone can fill in any gaps…but I hope that sets you off on a good start. Can you tell I run that route a fair bit…?   :open_mouth: :stuck_out_tongue:

Eyemouth on the Bridge, East Reston (The Next one from Eyemouth about 4 miles North of Eyemouth, and Cockburnspath after the dual carriageway past granthouses where it goes single north and 2 lanes south)

Those 3 definitely are set for trucks, I saw an EC Transporter get flashed over taking me just before the bridge at Eyemouth, on the wrong side of the road, the other 2 got me 1 week apart doing 46 mph (Yes my own fault) but I’m still waiting for the court summons arriving, delay is due to me changing address without notifying them, I think

have taken note but the name places mean nowt to me ,like i said its been 8yrs + since up that way, but will take the advice given.
have spent most of this week on the A303/A36 and theres a fair few on there to keep your eyes peeled, never in a rush so dont go flying anywhere, never on unsure roads.

have taken note but the name places mean nowt to me ,

Basically the ones to watch out for are

1.5 to 2 miles past Scottish Border just before bungalow looking over the sea (You can see it on right as Dual carriageway ends)

Then 2 miles at bottom of hill on left of bridge Just past the Eyemouth exit on right

Then a Further 3 or 4 miles East Reston, you can see village on left, camera is on the bend where the road dips down (then another 1 mile on opposite side catches both ways)

Then go through Grantshouses, road turns into dual carriageway with Kamakazi Deer which like to run out in front of you, at top of the hill it becomes single lane and about 1.5 miles on way down hill is the main Cash Generator for Scotland thats Cockburnspath, again you can see village set back on the left.

The only other camera on the single track is about 4 miles North at Torness just before the power station, on south bound side, then you can do 50 - 55 mph as it comes back to dual carriageway all the way to Edinburgh.

I’ve never seen the ones in Northumberland Active apart from the one at Beal, next to the Holy Island exit, but plod does like to sit in the field entrance about 3 miles North of Alnwick after the dual carriageway ends, its down hill and he sits right back so you dont see him till your about 60 yards away, once your past that there is, as Lucy says, the camera about 2 miles on with a sign that lights up, but I’ve never seen that one flash, the same with Purdey Lodge, in fact I dont think many trucks bother slowing down for them 2 now.

Definitely agree with Lucy. The A68 is murder in a wagon, there are too many steep climbs with a sharp bend at the start of them, so you can’t get speed up before hitting the climb.

A1 speed cameras northbound from Newcastle
just after the end of the dual at Morpeth
at the Christon Bank junction
half way up the hill in a dual section at Berwick (can be turned to cover north or southbound)
at the brow of the hill, on the dual after Berwick(can be turned to cover north or southbound as well)
at the start of the climb on the single track just after that (I got done for 48 here  )
at the bottom of the hill at the Eyemouth junction
theres one on the single track at East Reston
theres one after the dual as you drop down to the Dunbar roundabout (Cockburnspath)

I think thats all of them.

After that, they are all on dual carraigeway and I’ve not heard of anyone being done for 90k’s on that.
Keep your eyes peeled and mark your map for them all, north and southbound, so you’ll know where they are for your next or return journey.
The town or village names don’t need to mean anything to you now, just remember them/write then down. You’ll see the sign posts for these places before you see the cameras.

If you prefer to sit at 40 on the single track, let the truckers who know the road or want to go a bit quicker get past you in the dual sections. Theres nothing more annoying than someone holding you back where you can’t get past, then speeding up to max where you can  . Not that I think a pro’ like you would do that sort of thing of course, but there are a few who do. :unamused:

Or better still, and you have sat nav, download the database from the website below, which is now updated fortnightly.

I think it costs a couple of quid each time, (I could be wrong.) but,if like me you’ve submitted new cameras in the past,it’s free.

Saves you watching out for the little buggers.Just let your sat nav beep at you, while you concentrate on other things.

Ken.
