A motorist suffered a suspected broken arm in a collision involving a lorry and a car on the southern bypass in Norwich this morning.

Hundreds of drivers faced gridlock around the city following the collision, which happened just before 7am. One lane was closed following the crash, on the eastbound carriageway of the A47, halfway between the junctions with the A140 and the A146. The road was cleared by 8.24am.

The crash led to delays of more than half an hour on the A47 and vehicles were queued back as far as the B1108 turn-off.

It also had a knock-on effect with tailbacks on the A11 Newmarket Road, A140 Ipswich Road and Dereham Road heading in to the city.

A Norfolk police spokesman said the driver of a grey Peugeot 308 suffered a suspected broken arm and was taken to the Norfolk and Norwich University hospital.

Fire crews from Carrow, Earlham and Sprowston also attended the scene.
