A40 Rhine bridge, Duisburg

More buggered bridge shenanigans down on the Rhine. This time on the A40 bridge in Duisburg.

Traffic currently down to one lane towards Essen to relieve some of the load on the bridge and from next weekend a ban on vehicles over 3,5t for the next 5 weeks.

As this is the main west-east route from Venlo through the Ruhr area, there will be hell on.

The diversion is from Kreuz Moers on the A57 towards Nijmegen thence the A42 from Kreuz Kamp-Lintfort towards Oberhausen.

At the moment the restrictions are only in the one direction but will most probably be extended to the other direction when they inevitably decide that the damage is more serious than first thought.

thanks, that’s very good to know. I use that route a lot, actually I usually take the 42/57 from habit. The other way I go sometimes is to carry on a bit further south, then across on the 52 to come out at Roermond (stopping for supplies at the handy Lidl by junction 19 of the Venlo to Maastricht road  )

Is there any bridges left in Germany that arnt falling down-this will cause chaos.

I think the answer to that is NO, apart from the now fixed ones on the A45 (there are still quite a few still to be fixed though :frowning: ).
This one will be a particular pain for us, we load quite often from ALS in Duisburg

Is this bridge closed both ways to heavy traffic ■■

P.S. Mod’s.

Can you make this thread a Sticky ■■

Pretty please…

I’m gettin’ on a bit, I need my naps these days

Don’t be temped to try & get over in over 3.5t just gone past in a van & big cop presence just before bridge, were pulling trucks & taking pics ready for the big fine no doubt. Were still trucks coming other way so think that side is OK at present, I’ll check tomorrow on way back.

Luckily I’ve found an alternative route I can take & the Maut costs are pretty much the same…

I go twice a month to Velbert. So now I go A40,A57 direction Köln then A44 direction Ratingen after this I travel cross-country on a National to Velbert…

This takes me just a little bit longer than before…

In the local press last week, those nice policemen had done over 1000 trucks.
Signs in all languages in local parking areas saying the fine for getting down to the bridge is 150 euros. Nice days work. :imp:

So the busy little elves have completed their welding endeavours on the Essen bound carriageway of the bridge.

The bridge hag now reopened to all traffic, albeit the carriageway is down to 2 lanes.

At the end of next week they will be turning their attention to the Venlo bound carriageway.

You guessed it. For about 5 weeks the Venlo bound A40 will be closed to all traffic over 3.5t on the Rhine bridge for about 5 weeks.

Thanks for the update…

Came out of essen on thursday, definitly changed, you cant come from esssen to venlo over the bridge, unless you want to contribute more to the german economy

Work on the bridge has now finished (for the time being at least).

Truck restrictions have now been lifted.

2 instead of the usual 3 lanes are now in operation with an 80km limit (static radar on site) in each direction as of early Monday morning (15.06.15)

There has been much rejoicing.

To be fair, the diversion was ■■■■ easy! :sunglasses:

This work has now finished, came over on the way back to the UK last week
