As of the 7th July until 30th September, the A40 will be closed in both directions from Essen-Centrum to Essen-Huttrop a total of 3.5 Km marked in Red on the 2nd map, a diversion is also there marked Blue of the same map. Below are the two diversions showing suggestions on which route you may wish to take.
There are TWO links to pdf maps of the routes showing the best way of missing the road works.
INCLUDED In THE DIRECT LINK TO .,., the site with the maps and reasons why they are doing this, instead of 24 months of road works and traffic jams and other problems they settled for a 3 month closure,
lets hope they keep to the timetable
ONCE you are on this site go down to the TWO links marked as
UMLEITUNGS PLÄNE zum Download
Großräumige Umleitungen THIS IS THE BEST WAY TO AVOID the Road Works, These diversions are further away from the roadworks and hopefully then can cope with the traffic
Städtische Umleitungen,. This is a local diversion, not worth using as it will be full of all locals
The two links when clicked on will show maps of the diversions which will also be marked
which ever route you take it will have its suprises , it is just a matter of ,if you hitting that particular route at the right time,i would still go the A 2 VIA the A40 till the big diversion comes in as you can all ways drop down on to the A42 if the A2 is full,
I take it you will be heading to Wrocław, so will be travelling Venlo, Dortmund, Leipzig, Dresden through the Fatherland.
Aside from the A40 closure, there are on going roadworks on the A3 at Kreuz Oberhausen and on the A2 in the tunnel near the Schalke football ground after the Gelsenkirchen Buer exit.
To avoid these areas follow the A40 from Venlo to Kreuz Moers, then take the A57 towards Nijmegen. After 5kms pick up the A42 towards Dortmund at Kreuz Kamp Linfort. Make your way around Dortmund to pick up the A44 towards Kassel
