A34; New Proposals

Average speed cameras and a hgv crawler lane being considered…

Surely a ban on tractors, cyclists etc should be included?

Yep, uprate it to become the A34(M) and solve the tractor/cyclist/putt-putt rider issue.

Speed limits will keep getting lower so long as drivers think that a ■■■ paper is an acceptable safety gap.

Very seldom do i go further down then the A420 turn off, but the idiotic driving i see in just the few miles between A420 and M40 cannot be cured by more lanes nor motorway status.

Death or serious injury is the only result of lemming mentality, too close too fast too aggressive, and you can only flow anything liquid gas or motor vehicles at the rate it can pass through the narrowest section or where other there are feed in/out junctions, whether it be pipe or road.

They’d still be killing each other on that road if it was 10 lanes wide, its the mentality of the road users that needs altering which isn’t going to happen voluntarily, hence the move to more automation where the vehicle will insist on a proper spacing or auto braking will force the issue.
We will all end up with automated vehicles thanks to legions of lemmings.

+1

Put it back to one lane car drivers seem to think it’s got one lane anyway

It should have been pointed out in the report that of the six deaths this year, four were in one vehicle and two in another - so there have been two fatal incidents. That in no way belittles the loss of life (especially as five were children), but do two crashes on a road of that length, and with that volume of traffic really warrant such measures?

Also in Oxfordshire, they’ve never done anything about the A4074 between Hinksey & Reading and that road has claimed a shed load of victims over the years, especially through the 13 bends…if people won’t slow down or drive sensibly, ANY road can and will claim victims… it’s not the roads fault but the ■■■■ poor standard of driving across the board of some people

The 7.5t limit (daytime) at the Ridgeway righthand lane is widely ignored - no cameras etc so you still find some brainless plank getting it completely wrong and ending up making the summit at 25 mph.

Or tractor speed in the so called fast lane. :open_mouth:

Thats a nasty drag and a definite candidate for a crawler lane and there’s one or two others which need looking at.

As the one and only sensible route from the port of Southampton to the midlands and the north it really needs a comprehensive upgrade to motorway standard.

They need to upgrade the section south of the A272 (to Salisbury) as well, as there are often queues miles long approaching the M3 roundabout.
