A170 Thirsk to Scarborough

What about bricks out of I think it was Halifax, with a steep hill down to a t junction fully loaded that was fun.

That would be Marshall’s at Southowram and you come down the hill towards Brighouse. Used to go past in a rigid and see artics coming down the hill and be glad that it wasn’t me.

done it in an artic was empty and the road was wet.made it up ok was an auto box as well

Never done sutton bank before. But I once got stuck turning right up the hill out of Tullis Russell in Leslie before. Had a full load of those giant reels of paper on. Lost traction in the wet only about 100yds into the hill and had to reverse back down into the paper mill. That hill is only a 14% grade so can only imagine trying the same on sutton bank.:astonished:

Edit: Oops. It wasn’t Tullis Russell. It was the other one, Smith Anderson in Leslie.

Been that way twice goin to sherburn in elmet from the northeast was empty both times wouldn’t even think about it with a load behind youn

You would be referring to Marshalls Landscapes at Brookkfoot on the left as you went up. Coming down fully loaded was a far nicer thing to do than go up with a full load on.

Once attempted it in a tag lift DAF. . . Plenty of power, just a pity they tend to drive in a straight line if you required a large amount of power, so getting up and around that first bend was a little too exciting. The wall became ever so close.

Another bugger is north up berridale brae. Not overly steep but a tight left hand corner. If you meet anything on the corner, it’s a right pain trying to get set off again…especially with 27t of boards on! :open_mouth:

Done pipes up Berriedale @ 30+ metre long, you have to keep the trailer closed up and have a decent overhang to get round the corner, even with a steering trailer, a well known steel haulier tried doing the job using Bolster and bogies set up, and both their heavy haulage units snapped the half shafts on the corner

Never again!!

Did it once, car stalled in front of me halfway up. Plenty of spin but got up it with very white, crossed fingers.

That would be one of our agencies customers.

I brought 26 tonne down that 1 in 4 hill today.

Is Chimney Bank part of the Cockayne Loop Wolfie?

Ken.

Now that would be interesting in a double decker!
