A17 Camera's

We have probably touched on this in an earlier post but I cannot be bothered to search for it, so:

I noticed last night that on the A17 that many of the speed camera’s have a loop in a diamond shape in the tarmac in front of them and having read on here that some camera’s have HGV sensing loops I wondered if these could be the same.

Most HGV’s did seem to be running at 50mph or more but just to be safe I did ease it off at the camera’s, just in case.

If the loop is laid directly in front and so close to the camera how does it work?, if the loop is to sense HGV then by the time you hit it you are past the point where the camera can see your registration, etc so would be useless.

Well the camera at the bottom of Leadenham hill will get you over the 40mph, it did me just before christmas, slid past bang on 50mph and got 3 points for christmas. So now i give them a bit more respact, but most of the guys on that road draw a steady 50. Oh and watch the A15 as well, 48.9mph 2 years ago, honest i’m trying my best for a push bike  At this rate i’ll have to use the A47 to Peteborough, and then chuck it north on the A1on a monday morning, Lincolnshires out to get me.

Charles,

The cameras on the cranwell section have been known to nick hgv’s and as eddie says the one at the bottom of Leadenham hill is always takin pics.

What ya doin out there then thetford or load at attleborough■■?

I still can’t grasp the concept of why wagon drivers think that they’re immune to speed limits. With technology advancing at a rapid rate like it has been doing for beards now, it doesn’t take a genius to figure out that putting some weight sensors in the road will nab wagon’s exceeding their respective speed limit too.

These drivers that say ‘I went past blah camera on the A17 at 50mph and I got a ticket’, in a really surprised fashion make my day, because I thoroughly enjoy having a damned good laugh at other people’s stupidity.

Perhaps one day the penny will drop.

Why dont we all stick to the 40mph limit on single carriageways,

There would soon be an outcry from all the private car drivers
Loads of queues, near misses, miles of backed up traffic.

But as usual we cant get together, or stick together,

i do and some of them q,s you get behind you on the a46 and a47 can be miles…then when they get by you they give you the fist or finger even other hgv drivers

I do whatever speed I feel like at the time, quite simply. But, I know where the camera’s are on the vast majority of the roads in the UK and slow down for them accordingly. Mobile traps are a different story though but again, there are some roads which are more prone to them than others, for example the A66, but you will more often than not find that your fellow colleagues going in the opposite direction will give you a flash and big thumbs down if there is a mobile trap up ahead.

Hi Martin, it was AP at Watton, nice little run that was! Apparently the cold store had been waiting all day for the Hanley’s truck and traffic had rung then twice gave times when we would be there and then it never happened so they were not impressed when I got there, ended up 1.5 hours on the bay while they picked the load, 22 pallets. :unamused: :sunglasses:

I don’t think I’m immune but I do like to make best progress without forming a convoy so any information that allows me to drive effectively is always a benefit. If I do get flashed by a camera the only one to blame is myself.

My sentiments exactly “CM”, and i did do 40 mph along all the single carriage bits of road the following Sunday when i went out, and i can tell you that there is some right nutters out there, when they’ve been stuck behind a motor for an hour or so. its a long way from Norwich to Newark at 40

Coming down the A19 from York the other day, doing 40mph on the cruise, decided to pull into the cafe for a cuppa and sandwich.
The only driver to show any nausea for the 40mph bit was a truck driver who gave me the coffee bean hand shake.
The car drivers didn’t show any problems with me.

Doing 40 along the single carrigeway bits of the A1 up near Berwick also forms a lengthy que i can tell you but thats the limit and thats what i stick to now.

I would say in this new job ive gone from 80/20 ignoring the limit to 80/20 sticking to it.

one tip i was given was when they all start streaming past you giving the hand signals etc. blow them the biggest campest kiss and that will wind them up a bit more

Would agree with those that say the 40mph limit needs reviewing on CERTAIN roads like above were it is far too slow for the road conditions.

Ah,but correct me if I’m wrong, but aren’t you still paid by the hour at Sherburn, like I was when I was there?

Ken.

yep and that the added incentive thats made me stick to the limits!! no pint in rushing now is there!!!
