A1 West Yorkshire CLOSED 18 OCT 2012

Not to be judge and jury, but the photo that was posted originally (the one in the yorkshire post that they changed to the highways agency car on empty road) showed the vehicle in front of the Yodel, which was a white vehicle with a vertically slung tail lift, obviously a strong point of the rear end which looked to have very little damage, but you have to say that it looks like the Yodel driver ploughed into the back of the other vehcle(s) with little or no braking. It’s something that seems to happen more and more, whether it’s tiredness or what that causes it I don’t know. I did see a woman in a BMW on one of the road wars programmes on TV plough into the back of a car at the m6 toll, completely failing to brake which was very stange, it’s hard to understand how that can happen but especially coming to a toll.

The yodel truck ploughed into back of stationary Bhs truck, he was then pushed in to truck in front.
Driver received whiplash, bruise from seatbelt and air bag. he was bit shook up but other wise ok

I make no comment on this particular incident.

In general terms, too many of us are travelling far too close
to the vehicle in front and we need to pack it in before WE
are the ones pinned into the back of our seats by the bent
steering column, the laminated windscreen and the jagged
foot pedals.

We didn’t do it on our test - we shouldn’t do it now.

The stretch of the A1 between the M18 and M62 is crying out for an upgrade to full motorway status with a widened carriageway, upgraded junctions and no laybys as currently it must one of the worst “fast” stretches of dual carriageway in the country for the amount of traffic it handles on a daily basis. In the meantime a blanket 50mph limit might be a good idea until the HA pulls its finger out!

50 on a motorway or dual carriageway is no good to some of us, we have work to do…!

I agree…even has bus stops and the entry slip at Barnsdale Bar is a joke
