It would be nice if there was a forum in which Police and Pro Drivers
could dialogue together strategically to make roads safer places for all.

A B S O L U T E L Y .
I’ve thought that for years and I couldn’t agree more.

My mate is a Navigator in the Merchant Navy. He sees accident reports
about every collision or incident at sea, how it happened, what to avoid
and what to learn from other’s mistakes etc.

They learn a lot from full accident reports - and we could too.
.
.

Totally agree with the above.
I don’t know if it is anything to do with this particular accident, But that slip road at Barnsdale bar going north on to the A1 is a real pain. I use it some times when going north from South Elmsall.
RIP to the Driver.

Geezus that’s horrendous, this year seems especially bad for some reason, RIP :frowning:

Thats a terrible way for the driver to go.
I spent the day caught up in the tailbacks.

I’m convinced those Mercedes aren’t safe. It might be because they are the most common fleet vehicle but every time I see a cab mangled its nearly always a Merc I get the impression they are built to the minimum safety standards.

Very sad day, RIP Drive.

Think the first was a Fowler Welch

Worrying me thinks, everytime I say it I get called all sorts & get told that I talk ■■■■…

Yes - the Fowler Welch was Southbound.
It went through the central barrier and blocked a Northbound lane.
No other vehicle involved at that time.

Police Statement: “Three Northbound HGVs in a line shunted into
each other and hit a car in front. We believe they were stationary or
in slow moving traffic, potentially as a result of the other incident.
The driver of the HGV at the back was seriously injured and was pronounced dead.”

One trailer number, as shown on TV, had a YDL prefix.

i spent the day skirting around the closure.with 4 drops around this closed area but never got held up once unbelievably, I even made asda donc on time after leaving the yard late.

As for them axors, they are the vehicle i would least want to be in in the event of a crash. It sas only wednesday i was looking at the argos ones driving down the m6 thinking how much they dont look capable of pulling heavy trailers because how flimsy they look.

The Rustler:
Last time A1 was closed like this, I went off A1 @ Ferrybridge … M62 … M18 … back onto A1 South of Doncaster … I will admit I had a “good” run ( never came off the limiter ) … I reckoned, it only put 15mins EXTRA on journey time
I was surprised … always seems to take for-ever on that M18 from M62 to A1M.

how about M62, M18, M180 (J1) follow signs for Bawtry & the airport and rejoin the A1 at Blyth, it a little shorter timewise
however if your trailer is high beware there is a low bridge on this route near Austerfield, taking the road right at the roundabout before austerfield (near the Bawtry golf club entrance) past the end of the runway and turning left at the top will miss this bridge leaving to you to pick up the doncaster Bawtry road and onto blyth & a1

WOW … wouldn’t have thought of going that way  I’m surprised it’s shorter timewise, as it’s on A roads … not that I’m going to argue  … I’ve looked on the map … can see the sense, as you’re heading South - as opposed to going back to A1 @ Doncaster … will have to try to remember to try that  Cheers.

Nice shortcut used to use this to get to rossington from Thorne

Looking carefully that yodel motor looks like one of DHLs TGS not an axor, nothing says which of the 3 the fatality came from though…

It’s a bit ironic that shortly before the scene there is always a trailer in a field with a sign on it that reads “prepare to meet thy maker” !

Lol

The driver who sadly died worked for Yodel out of Stockton.
He was driving an ex DHL Merc Axor pulling one of the new Yodel Double Deckers.

Police said “The driver of the HGV at the back” …was the fatality.

POLICE:
Three HGV’s and a BMW 330 were involved in the collision which
resulted in a man from one of the HGV’s receiving fatal injuries.
The deceased has now been confirmed as being a 58-year old Middlesborough man.

RIP DRIVER.

All I can say is, the driving standards of truck drivers must be slipping.
This must be the worse year for avoidable serious injury and driver deaths to date!!
