Hello Jack , my dad got one , he got it broken into in Glasgow I think , They stole his telly out of it he was well ■■■■■■ off .I think it was sold to a recovery firm in Ossett but not sure.
One thing for sure, they were better to sleep in than the F86 or anything without a real bed.

Hi Kieth and any-one interested, I know where there’s a F88 290 sat in a yard just rotting away, it came from Wakefield, it was converted into a 6 wheeler and into a breakdown truck, it’s sat in my mates yard, he has about 70/80 busses and he took it off a guy in Wakefield who owed him some money many years ago, I told him if I was young enough I’d love to re-build it for him, and he said well get on with it then but I’m not strong enough to tackle a job like that any more, I have all on managing to walk and lift myself up these days let alone re-build an old 290, but what a project it would be for some-one to see it steaming down the road again after a re-build.
So if there’s any-one interested let me know before it’s too late. :-Jack.

Unless my memory is going completely, wasnt it Jack Jack Whittard who built a boat in his back yard, built in steel with his son, if I’m right he borrowed a low loader off JMR to launch it when it was completed, of course JMR said yes and called him Captain Birds eye after that, I know he was a real gentleman and fun to be with, and interesting when he started telling you about his boat. Regards :-Jack

Eyup Colly, I’m nearly certain it was the same Jack that run the Tubby club and I think he flew model aeroplanes in his spare time.

And I think it was Jackie Broadbent with the silk scarf and crombie. He kinda reminded me a bit of a white Sammy Davies Junior if you know what I mean

Spot on it was Jacky Broadbent, I worked with him from the Jack Fielder days in Bradford from the early 1960’s, he was always the same, smart clean and tidy, he was the kind of guy who could take out the low-loader on the filthiest job you could find and come back cleaner than he went, he was also a great pal to be with over the water, we did many miles together, he died in Bridlington where he went when they took his licence off him when he developed thrombosis in his legs, but I was told he still mannaged to get round the pubs in Bridlington just to keep his hand in, and even today I miss him and his laugh. Regards :-Jack
Would all you ex A.ONE lads would like to wish Stuart Broughton a happy 65 th birthday today , he would be well chuft
Any of you lads recognise this one,me and my brother bought it many, many moons ago it was traded in for a Daf I think.

And how it ended its life on the M6

You’re right, his son Paul and I worked together and he was forever “liberating” bits of timber, cable, tiles, carpet etc. from all the building sites we worked on.

Thank god for that, it proves my memory isnt as bad as I thought, but I had steam blowing out of my ears while I was thinking of that one, because it’s true that he was a real interesting man to talk to, sadly I never saw the boat, is it still being used or has it been sold, can you find out what happened to it please. Regards :-Jack.

If only some of A1’s Volvo’s could speak, they could tell a better tale than any driver could, they served JMR and many drivers well and also other drivers after they had been passed on to other owners, but a sad end to this one, I just hope the driver was OK on this one. Jack
