A1/A46 Juntion Newark lane markings

Was driving down the A46 towards Newark this morning and something sprung into my mind yet again and wondered if my thoughts were shared amongst other truckers.

Is it me or if your travelling from Newark and want to get on to the South bound A1 you always end up cutting across 2 lanes of traffic to take the A1 exit because of the way the lanes are painted.

This morning I went round the roundabout as i came back from Newark, indicated, checked my mirrors etc (reverse that  ) the coast was clear and as I pulled across a 4x4 which would have been turning left from the services to join the A1 cut me up and didn’t let me in even thought i was leaving the roundabout, has i not slowed down he would of lost the wing mirrors and bumper, hence I had to use the chevron area to get off the roundabout.

Has any one else thought this or in fact experienced this?

There are far too many roads at these roundabouts and not enough width of lanes.

There are 3 roundabouts there and 2 of them could be peak controlled or blocked on the A46 axis so by the majority of users approach from the same way.

The only snag is, it would increase traffic on the A1 bridge sections

The lanes there are clearly marked he was in the wrong lane
If he came out of the services and wanted the A1 or the A46 he should have waited for a gap and moved out of the A17 lane.

you can thank that stupid weight limit at coddington for all the chaos on the a46/a17 roundabout it was bliss when we could join a1 at old a17 junction
