A sincere thank you

I got a call on my way back to the yard. One of these days I will learn. I pulled over at the nearest lay by and called back. 120 mile round trip detour. Ugh, right time for a break then. Crossed the A5 to get a coffee and sarnie. Trying to get back a 44T held up the traffic and flashed their lights to let me cross. Made my day.

To the driver at A5/ M69 roundabout today, thank you. True Knight of the road. I vow to pay this kindness forward.

I am trying to work out which one of you is the most stupid if this really happened.
Its no wonder there are bad accidents with you two clowns about. :unamused:

I think he means by the petrol station, there is a layby opposite, but you are right, techically the driver shouldnt wave pedestrians across the road but there is a bollard that divides

Well he did say he crossed the A5 for a break.
I don’t know the area but from what is described it’s all a bit crazy.

For one a pedestrian trying to cross a busy road and secondly a so called professional driver stopping to let the pedestrian over.

If this isn’t a wind up its depressing to think these two people think they’re doing the correct thing. Unbelievable. :unamused:

I think it’s fairly obvious he was driving a wagon, not a pedestrian.

Why didn’t he say  I blame it on the drugs.

Way I see it a truck waited and give way to another truck when the driver basically did not have to.
If that is right how I have read it…(and I ain’t having a pop at the o/p here either btw,…) The job has come to a sorry state when it is that uncommon for one truck driver to show a bit of courtesy to another truck driver when he doess not have to,.that it is worthy of making a point of it. :open_mouth:

I remember the days (and not that long ago) when we all showed courtesy and empathy towards each other as fellow truck drivers, as second nature,.first option …and on a daily basis numerous times.

As ever the job is now awash with knob heads with Class 1s (or whatever tf they call them these days) ,.that it is every man for himself on the whole,.and a rare occasion when a driver helps another. :unamused:
Yet another example of how the job is now rubber ducked.

No,Robroy,he was crossing the road as a pedestrian and the lorry was coming down the a5 towards the m69.There is always a queue there,so the lorry waited for him to cross

Ha, I’m not sure I interpreted the OP correctly. Put it down to too much wacky baccy but still not sure exactly what happened.
Maybe I’m due the OP an apology, dunno.

Agree about lack of manners and courtesy these days, as said seems to be every man for himself.

I don’t know if it’s me getting older or what but when I was on the road in the early days I was always proud of the fact we were supposedly knights of the road and it was great to see other drivers helping each other all the time.
Fast forward to today and don’t get me wrong, I’m all for courtesy but I do notice especially car drivers being courteous but at the same time putting others in danger by their lack of thought and often observation. IE stopping to let someone cross when it’s not safe.

Back to the current scenario and I somehow imagined the knight of the road stopping all the traffic to let a pedestrian lorry driver cross the road to get a sarnie… :open_mouth:

If he did Jake I dont think he pulled across blocking 2 lanes,.and then jumped out of the cab waving a red flag  .
I’ve seen me do it slow down for a pedestrian, …not to the point of everybody behind me doing emergency stops btw, but with no dramas

Watch yourself with the weed btw…morning after drug wipes :bulb: …just saying.

Who knows, maybe the OP will inform us or maybe not. This sort of thing always brings back one day when living and driving in London. It was in Knightsbridge in heavy traffic.
Being in a truck I could see clearly what was happening ahead. A car a couple in front of me stopped and obviously waved a luton transit van out from the left. The van went
without hesitation or any caution and suddenly there was a motorcycle and rider imbedded in the side of the van. Poor guy wasn’t brown bread but he was doing an awful lot of moaning.

This is what worries me about the way some stop, being courteous in their minds but without a thought for the likes of a motorcycle or anything else for that matter coming whizzing down their outside or worse inside. Plenty take care but there are a lot that don’t put enough thought or observation into it.

Sorry to rant on, I sem to be getting very sensible in my old age…it’s a little worrying.

Regarding driving after whatever, it don’t happen. When I’m at home I don’t drive any vehicles, just relax chill out…
