Just been talking to a lad tipping at same place as me who mentioned that he ran down to Luton on Sunday from yorkshire for an early tip Monday morning.
What company was he driving for ?

does it really make any difference whether he does a few hours on Sunday then a shorter day on Monday, or the full 15 hours (or whatever is planned) on the Monday?it makes a difference to his wage, he doesn’t get paid for sunday or his night out, but cos he worked sunday for nowt he works less hrs on mon when he would be paid
so he works sun and does an extra night out for less money than he would get if he had sun offDid you miss the bit where I said “It rather depends how he’s paid”?
did you miss the bit in the original post where the original poster stated this driver didn’t get paid for work done on sunday

Fair play, Rob: Offer a reasonable solution to an obviously iffy situation.
Nice one

Cheers Keith, but as I am sure you are aware they used to call it common sense and showing initiative when I started in this game, qualities that appear to be at a minimum with a lot of drivers today

one lad that works for me lives in the truck all week … he has a 30m round trip, so it suits him to …’‘…Suits him to…’ avoid a pug-ugly ■■■■■■■ indoors
hes not married anymore think hes had 2 lol lives with his daughter
If these guys want to be (unpaid) heroes to their boss I couldn’t give a [zb], let the [zb] crack on, but if them doing so could potentially affect me or my wage then I then do give a [zb]
…Just to explain that last bit to the hard of thinking … it could be “Don’t give that Sunday runner to Roy, we will have to pay him, Give it to ■■■■ he will do it for [zb] all”
i see where your coming from BUT
the job he was doing isnt a sunday runner is it, its a 6am tip monday and only a 3hr run give or take, he has just gone off his own back to get a little more sleep, but i hope he books the 3 hours that he would have done on the monday morning to drive down
now if the boss says run down sunday so you can gain some hours for monday, then if someone turns round and says ill do it for free then they need a slap
but i can hold my hand up nighting out for free many years ago, only because burnley were playing away and i was tipping in the say town, so i went down and watch the game had a beer and no need to drive home after the game

So not only did you suffer by not getting paid a night out, but you also had to watch Burnley play football , bit of a double whammy there mate
.
(Sorry no offence, I hope you can take a joke)

I think the chances off this guy booking the hours are non existent, otherwise the OP would have been about a guy running sunday on basic rate, which would have been slightly more pallatable, although still a slap to those who offer to work weekend for an enhanced rate.
When the employer realises (monday morning) that the guy worked for nothing for 3+ hrs on sunday, he’ll rub his hands together and as a thank you for the drivers dilligence, in getting the load on the door for 6am, he’ll give him a full 15 hrs work, to fully utilise his card. Not 4hrs for sunday plus upto 11hrs monday

I’ve spent nights in the truck in the yard, unpaid, because I live 80 miles from my employer, but that aint cutting no one elses throat. a driver living closer would just go home, though you’d be surprised how many stop in the yard, even only 20 miles from home.

Totaly agree.
I’ll admit something here, I’ve worked sunday for a weekday day rate though the sundays were 3pm til 9pm, only 6 hrs, and the company finnised us on the thursday night(5 day per week salary, no overtime), so the following weekend would be 3 days. Now thats what I call worth my while
This is the trouble with the gradual erosion off pay and conditions, it not so many years ago, that time between midnight and 6am, and 8pm to midnight used to pay a dark money (ball park 1 quarter of an hour extra each hr), and sundays would be double time, weekdays would pay time and a half after 8, and saturdays would be time and a half, and some places paid double after dinner time on a saturday. I’m not sure where it all went, but the actions described in the OP show easily how conditions can be erroded

I think some of you have missed the point that I was trying to make .
