A moan for you.

I am an expat and currently watching the Royal floatilla live on BBC America and have discovered that you lazy lot back there have another damm holiday.
With all these bank holidays you get in the UK how can you have anything to moan about ?
We get a measly 6 holidays a year in this heathen country and I usually have to work at least half of them

Not bad. Lol

Not up to the usual standards, but a moan is a moan

I saw you’d posted on fb that you were stuck in hell, thought you may have some ranting to do when you got home

But look at the zb weather.Beginning ofJune and more like March. :open_mouth:

Whereas over there you’ve got a choice of warm sunny destinations like Florida and cheap petrol to drive there. All you need is to do is ask the guvnor for some time off probably without pay but what you’d lose in pay you’d more than make up for on the price of the petrol. :bulb: :smiling_imp:

I’m surprised at you Geoffrey I’ve been in central London and its been great despite the weather makes you proud to be British god save the queen.

You obviously have no real idea how things are over here
We pay a lot more in taxes for a starter, saying I have the choice to go to Florida for warmer weather is like me saying you can always drive to Greece when you want some sun. Last week we had so much rain my garden is under 6 inches of water. If I asked for some unpaid time off I would probably be fired there and then, I had to work for this company for a whole year before getting a week off and another 2 years to total 3 before it increased to 2 weeks and it gets no bigger untill 10 yers service. Cars here are diliberately set up to use more fuel, any car that uses less fuel is not permitted to be imported. Our car is a Honda Pilot and it does about 18 mpg if we are lucky. Ford are not alloed to sell Diesil fiesta’s because they are ecconmical, VW are not allowed to sell there more ecconomical diesil models because they use less fuel. The cost of food and other things have ballooned in price so now an average family of 4’s weekly grocery bill is about $200.00, our TV, Cell phone and house phone comboned bill is $300.00 a month, our electricty bill is $150.00 a month. I can’t afford to be sick for fear of getting my house repossesed.
Dont EVER think life here is better.

We watched a delayed showing last night, maybe the odd pang of envy to be back there enjoying the party atmosphere before the miserable rain and drizzle set in.You’re on the wrong side of the line Pat,holiday every month up here, and should your shift fall on one it’s double bubble etc.

Pat,you want to lift your right foot up a bit,I just returned from Boston and hired a Ford Explorer,it did over 20 mpg. Mark

Your Ford Explorer isn’t as big as the Pilot Pursy, Our car is supposed to do 24 mpg highway but around here it sadly misses the mark … mind you ! When I trade it I will be looking at another Pilot, best car I ever owned and the last one I had in the UK was an Audi A4.

I had a 54 plate BMW 320D which was on about 87k on the clock. Took it down to a mate who owns a car sales place over here in Wales so he could buy it before i fly over. He did some digging around with a BMW check turns out it had been clocked once. With that in mind I was got average of 43.5 mpg out of her in the last few years and she always had the power there when I needed it. I was then informed the BMW engines are good for about 250k - 300k miles :astonished: :astonished: :astonished: thats one thing I’m gonna miss

Bring it over !
When I came here I left my beloved Audi with a mate to sell for me, as it happens he turned out to be more a cheat than a mate and ripped me off big time, but I was told by a guy I knew who had also moved over that he bought hi car over for a grand with a shipping company. I should have imported my Audi. Another friend of mine moved the other way (US to England) yes he did it right. The man in question shipped his BMW M3 to the UK for $1300 and filled the interior with valuable items.

Wished i could have met you at the truck show last week, would have been nice to have a natter about lorries to another Brit.

Charles

Audi eh,I have 2 MAN 8ws and I wouldnt touch another vehicle made by the Germans. I had a Ford Explorer in the UK for about 8 years and its just been so reliable, its not got great handling but it has towed a truck or two out when they have been empty. try that with an A4.
Charles, did you go to the ATHS show, I went on the Friday and was planning Saturday too but my Mother was seriously ill back in the UK so we did Steamtown on the Saturday and flew home Sunday. Didnt get to Lake George that Pat recommended but family comes first. Mark
