A lorrys extra name

Hi!

I think I should start a tread about lorries and their names. We know We have ALBION but what more? Because I don’t know all the names it should be good if you guys would write them here. We should begin 1945 and end 1965.

VOLVO had names on their lorries during the 50 - 60 decades such:

Heavy vehicles
L 150 Rundnos
L 395/495 Titan (Latin “I roll”)
L 4951 Titan Tiptop
L 385/485 Viking
L 375/475 Starke (Strong)

Light weight (distribution)
L 420 Snabbe (Fast)
L 430 Trygge (Safe)

Scania-Vabis
Heavy veichles
L 71 Regent
L 51 Drabant
L 75 Super

Then come system 8 with no names on the lorry. L 475, 420 and 430 is long gone. Viking become NB/FB86 but was named N86/F86

Hi Jimmy The Snowcats were Albion chassis and I think the cabs were produced by the Forth groups workshops.
Are you still on the winter lay-off ower there. We had snow for three days about 2/3inches Shanks closed all the amenity sites on Sunday Health and Safety issues had they kept them open!!!. Mind big Wull Notman well he is in charge of all the sites now so maybe thats the reason they were closed.Eddie.

Albion — Caledonian -Reiver - Clydesdale - Chieftain - Claymore

cheers - Hywel.

What about
Leyland Octopuss, Comet etc
Scammell Highwayman, Handyman, Routemaster, Cruisader
Atkinson Borderer
AEC Mammoth Major, Mandator, Mercury
There will be loads more but I need a prompt now and again and then it all comes flooding back.

We are talking about the Snowcats now on the forth thread they were a motor that maybe the young ones would not want to handle

I called my wagon Mandy.

Hey,

Lancia, Esagamma,Esadelta,Esatau.
Krupp, Titan,Tiger,Mustang,Widder.
Leyland, Beaver,badger,Buffalo,Marathon.
AEC, Mandator and so on.
Cheers Eric,

Some that don’t spring to mind like the more well known types, Ford Clearway (Van body with Trader front end), Karrier Bantam and Gamecock, Leyland Retriever, Bear. Scammell Townsman, Mountaineer, Himalayan, Contractor. Thornycroft Nubian, Big Ben. These are early Sixties types, British makers didn’t go in for a lot of names from 45 to the 70’s sticking to numbered/lettered prefix designations then more appeared from the 70’s such as the Atkinson family (Borderer, Defender etc).
