One boss I worked for reckoned that the Driving Hours Regulations were never intended to be anything more than “guidelines”.
He remained convinced of this until he was called in front of the local Traffic Comissioner. The upshot was that three drivers and their boss were immediately looking for further employment!

I know someone who stopped on the Hard Shoulder of a Motorway to be ill, a few moments later a pig pulled up behind him, short version is, the pig checked his Digicard and he was fined £180 on the spot, £60 for a WTD infringement and £120 for driving 7 minuets over a 9. He had no 10s left.
This was the Police, so it’s not just VOStApo you have to be wary of.

Only been stopped once by VOSA.
He checked the pin and the no plate and apologised for delaying me and waved me on my way!
I was cheerful and polite. Enquired after his health and asked him if they were having a good day. He was the same…
He didn’t even ask to see my tachos or card…

I have never, ever had a problem with VOSA. I have probably been inspected about twelve or fifteen times over the years, they have always found some minor fault with my cards or the vehicle but I’ve never been prosecuted by them.The very first thing that VOSA do when they stop you is apply the “attitude test”. If you pass that then they don’t normally keep you more than 10 or 15 minutes.

That is where one driver complains and is hostile/unhelpful towards them and another driver realises they have a job to do and its just one of those things so is helpful, calm and polite

Why is the copper a [zb]■■? he just said the driver has had his two 10 hours and is 7 mins over 9 and is sitting on the motorway … the driver should of pulled off at services or slip road yeah sometimes you will go over hours stuck behind a crash etc etc but that seems he was chancing it!

Soz, should have said, this happened recently but the infringements were from August.
This chap had pulled up on the hard shoulder to be physically sick.
Life’s hard enough without some gastapo pig hitting you with £180 fine, he could have given him a bit of leeway considering he’d pulled up for a genuine reason, unlike loads of these foreign ■■■■■ on the M25 that pull up under the bridges for a break.

If it is an early digi tacho I have been led to believe vosa make allowance because the drive time recorded is inacurate.

I’ve found they have been ok if its a few minutes once in a blue moon always very dubious when someone tells me they got nicked for been 1 minute over.
Of course if you happen to drive overseas loose your card and rip the tacho out and install a new one as the kings of the overland route will tell you it will be a €20000 or 5 years in the Bastille for moving the lorry six inches.

I’d like to know who Police’s the Police? You see everyday in the Media that another one’s been done for something or other, bent as ■■■■■ CBA with any of them.

Well he did say it was last year, so even if they do check him again tomorrow there won’t be a lot they can do about it (that’s assuming it still shows on his card, which is unlikely 12 months down the line…)

I was actually stopped again later last year (and once earlier this year)
A couple of minor infringements of a minute or 2 mostly and nothing was said really.
3 different VOSA officers too…
My god, 7minutes! I hope you receive the force of the law for commiting such a crime.
