7.5t 'Sleeper cabs' wtf?

I drove to Toulon on a French Saints day (Forget which one) I had the whole motorway network almost truck free. Apart from the odd reefer. Ideal! :sunglasses:

Our place has 4 (old) Ivecos all sleepers and all low cabs. Got swapped from my eurocargo high cab and nearly knocked myself out. Jumped up on drivers seat to go to bed.
Our normal drivers are all big lads but manage to use them ok. I’ll stick with my 18t thanks

This was my old low roof Atego. I went to Dusseldorf in this when it was brand new.

Always thought the DAF LF sleeper cabs looked abit narrow, i had a day cab one when working for Travis Perkins and being 6ft 4 could only just stretch out across the seats with my head propped up against the door.

I’ve never thought of you as fragile.

Thankyou.

better to double man in an Atego
than a Daf Lack of space cab

The bed’s not too bad, but you can’t leave it down when you’re driving which is a PITA. I’ve seen some with extra-big sleepers, don’t know if they’re any better?

We ran 3 of these little Mercs,2 sleepers and 1 daycab. We replaced this boxvan with a new curtainsider, the bunk was a full sized one from memory and we never had any complaints from the driver.

Anybody used a 7.5t cab with a ‘bed/bunk’?
Can’t be a lot of room if it’s going to be your ‘Home’ for 4/5 days??

Why can’t there be any room ?
Amongst our fleet on Concord roadshows we had a couple of Iveco Cargo 7.5 ton ners with sleepers and the were exactly the same size cab as a regular Cargo sleeper, in fact they had more room than My Scania.

These are the dogs for living in, These were used by Ontime. you have a body for your dry storage under the car ramps, the cab has double bunks and they are lovely to drive. The only Merc I would actually want to be seen in :stuck_out_tongue:

Have to agree there mate. The old 814 was a great lil’ workhorse. 80mph on the motorway. ■■■■ up hills pre turbo days!

This has been quite an eye opener, I’ve only ever been in 7.5t vehicles that have had no ‘room’ behind the seats. I couldn’t picture a bed or even enough room to stand up.

Why bother roughing it when some travellodge’s are only £15 a night for double beded rooms with shower and toilet. I have stayed in a few reasontly, but you only get that price if you book in advance on the internet.

I recently bought an Iveco 75E18 Hi Top sleeper. It has double bunks, sunroof, air con, 3 large lockers over the windcreen and plenty of little storage spaces. Granted it is ‘snug’ when there are 2 people sleeping in there but for the odd night its more than manageable.

When the driver is on his own he loves it. I run it all over Europe on Antique Furniture collections/deliveries and so far am thoroughly pleased with it. It certainly gives more flexibility and is great for tight driveways etc

£21 Night out money, ummmm I’ll sleep in a ‘box’, pie and pint and will have £15 in my pocket.

Whilst I can see what you are saying, knowing exactly where you are going to be when you can have 10-15 deliveries on board covering 2-300 miles booking a travel lodge in advance in an area where you can do the maximum amount of work but still legally reach can be somewhat problematic

Cant be any worse than the 3.5/7.5 tonners with pods on that a lot of polish use. Granted I wouldnt want to spend all week every week out in 1 but for an occasional night out then no problem. At least with being a rigid you can put some gear in the back without having to move it every time you change trailer.

A mate of mine takes a camping toilet in the back of his rigid (18 ton I think) which he spends all week out in.

Sounds cosy

Your mate spends all week in a camping toilet? :open_mouth:

Think I’d prefer a sleeper cab or even a pod sleeper over that
