koikeeper:
WTD: After 6 hours work/driving you must have a break: Minimum 30 minutes.
A break of 30 minutes is required for 6-9 hours work; 45 minutes for over 9 hours.
Breaks can be divided into 15 minute slots. First break must be at least 30 minutes.
Where mixed driving and working is carried out, the drivers’ hours rules on breaks (EC/3820/85) take precedence.
Is this a wind-up
Show us in the regulations where it says that the first break must be 30 minutes.
By the way (EEC) 3820/85 was repealed by (EC) 561/2006 in 2007
Working between 6 and 9 hours per day requires breaks
totalling 30 minutes. If more that 9 hours is worked then
breaks must total 45 minutes. Breaks must be of at least
15 minutes duration. Break requirements under the
Regulations, are in addition to those under the EU drivers’
hours rules. But where mainly driving work is undertaken it
is possible that working time breaks may be satisfi ed by
breaks from driving taken under the EU drivers’ hours
rules. The EU drivers’ hours rules break requirements take
precedence when driving.
Whilst Koikeeper and Jasper have probably gone quiet from embarrassment and the like, it would be interesting to see where they heard about this 30 minute rule.
CPC training? Other training? Company advice & procedure etc?

From word of mouth.
Other people that had driven for many years were asked about the rules by noobs.
As I wasn’t sure on some of them, I registered on here to find some answers for myself.
As it turns out, word of mouth (MMTM) is often confused with truth, so quite often wrong info gets repeated.
Since being on TN, tachographs posts (and other peoples) have been hugely helpful in trying to get rid of some of the BS info.
I have a simple rule for ‘rules’ that people tell me are rules.
Simply put, “got that in writing”, as in show me the rule that backs up what you’re telling me.
Often, this isn’t possible, so I’ll find the relevant correct info and show it (if need be) to said person(s).

Some of the early VOSA guidance sheets had it wrong and I suspect that is one of the reasons so many people still think it’s 30min after 6h.

Not just the sheets - it was stated as 30 mins on some of the early videos produced by VOSA around the time that the RTD started - hopefully those vids are now in the bin !!
